New FAAB Rules
New FAAB Rules
One of the new FAAB rules says:
New For 2014:
Once a minor-leaguer plays his first game in the majors, he remains in every NFBC FAAB pool whether he returns to the minors or not. Once in the majors, he remains in all FAAB pools.
(this should mean Trevor Bauer becomes available in FAAB after he pitches Wednesday)
Participants should also note that MLB unsigned veteran free agents at the time of Draft Day are eligible to be picked up or bid on in all NFBC leagues.
However, I'm not able to bid on:
Joel Hanrahan FA
Kevin Gregg FA
etc.
Is there a special way to bid on unsigned veteran free agents?

I'm not sure exactly where you pulled this quote from, but I believe that unsigned free agents are available to be drafted or bid upon Only During the Draft or Auction; after that point they are not available for FAAB until they play or pitch in a game.

Re: New FAAB Rules
Seems to me everyone is available on draft day so why would it need to be stated separately in the new rules?
The quote comes from the latter portion of the Free Agent section of league rules.

quote the first three sentences of section 12.
Re: New FAAB Rules
What does that have to do with the final sentence of section 12 which comes after the heading "New for 2014"??EWeaver wrote:

Did you not read that far down?
Talk about poor reading.

I was hoping for an explanation from Greg or Tom, not derision from the peanut gallery.

Re: New FAAB Rules
Chris, the new rule means that if Trevor Bauer pitches on Wednesday and then gets sent down to Triple-A on Friday he still remains in the free agent pool in all NFBC leagues. Last year we would have removed him after folks began bidding on him. Now he remains in the pool all year long even if folks don't pick him up this week. He was in the majors and so he now remains available in all NFBC leagues. That's new for 2014.Deadheadz wrote:One of the new FAAB rules says:

Unsigned free agents were available to be bid on or drafted during Draft Day. Now that rosters have been set, they have to be in the majors to be picked up via free agency. Nothing has changed there.
You can always just email me these questions, too. Simple enough.

I ask questions in the forum so everyone who doesn't know the answer will see it when it's made. That way STATS doesn't get the same questions emailed to them repeatedly.Glenneration X wrote:Deadheadz, please follow this request.Greg Ambrosius wrote:You can always just email me these questions, too. Suggestion for Greg: the wording would be less confusing if it said "MLB free agents who are unsigned as of Draft Day will not be available until they are on a major league roster."
Since all players are available on draft day it seems pointless to state those unsigned free agents are available on draft day.
Glenn, I'm so sorry for causing you and the other geniuses around here grief by asking for clarification of a "new rule" which wasn't exactly clear. Thank you for being so patient and understanding.

Wait...wait...don't tell me...sarcasm, right Sport?

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.
