Torn UCL in his thumb sliding head first into first base.

Some guys are never going to learn. How stupid sliding into 1st base.

It's a little easier to do when you are guaranteed 20 million dollars or so!

Big deal. Braun cannot even feel his thumb and he hit three HR yesterday. Rub some dirt in it...

Seriously, that sucks. I do not have him (luckily), but I feel the other owners pain.

First time in over a year that I've seen the guy bust his a$$ down the line on a groundball and he ruins it by diving into first base

He actually seemed like he "wanted it" (a hit that is)

And yes, I do have him on my team

To me he was a great pick this year. A clearly talented guy who saw his ADP drop due to recent poor performance. He seemed like a classic rebound guy who is at the age where he realizes his legacy is on the line. I took him and that, plus losing my prized sleeper Paxton made today an unpleasant day!

Most incredible thing I heard during the 40th anniversary of Hank Aaron's 715th HR is that in 24 seasons he never went on the disabled list. Incredible.

Could be just 45 days, but odds are there will be another 15 just around the corner.

Wow. I didn't know that about Aaron. At the end of Olney's Baseball Tonight podcast (from yesterday), there is a 5 min segment of Vin Scully's call when Aaron hit his 715th. For those of us that were too young in 1974, it's worth going back in time for those 5 min and listening to the crowd and to Scully's comments on that moment.

Two months ago, the New York chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America honored Aaron and the man who threw the pitch for home run number 715, Al Downing, a classy gentleman and a former 20-game winner. After Downing spoke first, Aaron pulled him back to the podium.

"The pitch that he threw me that night -- if I can remember, it's been a long time, forty-some years -- it was supposed to be a screwball," Aaron said.

"It was a sinker," Downing said.

"Sinker?"

"Didn't sink."

"I was trying to get it before it sunk."

"You got it."


Playing baseball back then as a 13-14 year old in the South, we were indignant (laced with prejudice and racism) that someone would have the gall to break Babe Ruth's record. Still did not stop me from faking being sick in order to see the Atlanta - Cincy game on April 4th when he tied the record. I do not think I cared that he would break it, but I wanted to see him equal it. My prejudice and racism has waned with maturity even if Mr. Aaron's has not (of course, I am a Republican and therefore am by definition a starch-shirted, tie-wearing Klansman), but to do that, hit 755, under THAT much pressure, at his age, no DL, no steriods. Most of the players today and since (including Josh Hamilton and Barry Bonds) couldn't carry his jock.
