New FAAB Has % Owned, Pinned Free Agents

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Fri Apr 18, 2014 1:34 pm

You will notice a couple of changes with the FAAB system today and more are coming in the next week:

** You will notice an 8th stat category has been added to the Free Agent Rankings: % Owned. We now have every stat category under the Fantasy Stats tab that we had with the old FAAB except for Active % and Date Activated.

** You will notice two additional tabs of stats: Standard Stats and Overview Stats. The Standard tab has many of the stats that were on our old Fantasy tab. Games Started is there for pitchers and you can sort every category and also sort by season long or time periods. Once you go to another position, it remains on the tab you were on previously. The Overview Stats tab has Owned %, Active % and Date Activated so that you can sort for players who were added to free agency during the last week.

** You will notice that Free Agent Rankings are now pinned. By just scrolling the page down slightly, you can now have that entire box of available free agents visible on your screen and you can scroll the free agents separately while your Pending Bids box remains stagnant.

** Pop-up windows haven't been removed yet, but both will be removed next week. Please put up with these for another week, but we will remove them next week.

** % Owned is now on all three tabs since you said that was the first preference when looking for available free agents. We heard you and made sure it is available on all three tabs.

** Gray shading with every other player will also be added next week like we have on the old FAAB system. Look for that next week.

** A separate page with Pending Bids like we have on the old FAAB system will be available next week as well, with all Pending Bids in one line and a pulldown menu to quickly reach all of your teams. This will be an ideal way to check all of your teams' Pending Bids on Sunday nights.

** A Bid On Player button will be added to each individual players' page soon.

** As we mentioned on another thread, Sunday FAAB results will be announced more quickly starting next Sunday. We still need to add a tool to our Admin page before changing the time on this, but starting next week we will reduce the buffer to 5 minutes and all FAAB will be available likely by 10:15 pm ET or so.

It's not a finished product yet, but we're getting there. Check out FAAB this weekend and we look forward to your feedback. Thanks all and good luck this weekend. And remember that the tab to the old FAAB system remains at the bottom of the FAAB page, which now isn't as long thanks to the pinned Free Agent Rankings box.

A big fan of these two adds. Looking forward to some of the others scheduled for next week as well. Thanks Greg.

Well, my post can be described as nothing other than quibbling, but since we are perfecting the FAAB page... I see no reason to take the %Owned column to tenths. I'd say whole numbers are accurate enough, and easier to browse.

Love the changes. One request that I have seen from others. If it has been done forgive me. Can we have the link to bring up the old faab format be at the top of the page rather than the bottom? That way for those who want to use the old format for now while working to get comfortable with the new one do not have to scroll to the bottom of all the pitchers to get to that link.

Much easier to use the new interface now. Agree with Knuckle that %owned decimal is a waste of space. With the additional changes coming and hopefully a little more formatting work, this could end up being a very nice upgrade. :)

My iPad freezes up now everytime I try to load up this latest new version of the Free Agent Page.

Anyone having any luck with an IPad? The new version worked poorly on the IPad before, but I could at least open the page and get to the old version. Now it's totally not working.

Works on my Mac OK.

Please make going to the old format a direct option on the pull-down "Transactions" menu. That would keep reliability in the software until you get all the bugs out of the new version. As I mentioned above, now I can't even get the Free Agent Page open when I'm mobile with the iPad.

Maybe some of this has been covered already - apologies if it has. I decided to give the new FAAB set up another try today. First league I go I notice a OWN % column. Sweet. I click on it. Even sweeter it goes highest to lowest instead of having to click it twice. First guy up is Mejia - shows 85. Next guy up is Cody Allen - shows 78.4. Why wouldn't these be formatted the same? Just seems like that is Data101. Next column is innings pitch. Back to Mejia - he shows 16.0 innings pitched. Yes - proof that a whole number can be shown to the tenth place. On the % owned....don't really care if it is rounded to the whole number or to the tenth place. Just make it the same?

About 10 guys down the list is Koehler. He shows nothing in the percent owned column. Just a blank spot. Looks like everything is off by a column. Can that be fixed?

A little further down the list.....ugh.....lost all the columns on the top - now I have no clue what categories the numbers are in. Can we not freeze the headings?

Still trying to figure out what the icons to the left of the name are. I hover over the left blue whatchamajiggy and it says bid. The cbs icon says watch. What is the third one - the one that looks like a domino?

I see multiple tabs near the top - let's try standard stats. I click on that and some more data pops up. Since I am halfway down the list - no clue whatsoever what the numbers are. Scroll back up to find out, memorize the columns, back down to the middle.

Overview stats.....I see an activated column. I scroll down to see what might be in that column. I find the following:

Koehler 9.8
Cahill 2.6
Arrieta 0
Belisaria 0
Coke 0
Wooten 0
Partch 0
Diekman 0

Guess I expected dates? Ah...there at the bottom is the link for the old version. Click. Can we move that link to the top please?

Without a doubt John, pinning that top stat header makes total sense. I noticed that right away too and we'll see if we can get that done. Makes total sense.

I'll also ask to make each stat consistent. We go three spots out for ERA and WHIP when maybe we only need to go two spots out, so going out to the tenth percent in % Owned is another category we can look at. But most sites go out to the tenth of a percent in % Owned. I think we just need to make things consistent here.

Robert, I emailed you about the iPad and if you can send more info I'll get that to IT. Is anyone else having trouble with the new FAAB setup on an iPad? If so, email me ([email protected]) what it's doing and I'll send to IT. We want you to be able to do FAAB on the iPad and tablets and this latest change shouldn't have affected that, but let me know and we'll get on it.

All suggestions are appreciated and some of these should be easy fixes. Thanks all.

Greg, if we could dump the decimal on % owned and the third decimal on ERA and WHIP and then squeeze in BB next to K's on the first tab, that would be awesome.

This product continues to be refined. It is light years better than what we've had in the past. A lot of great suggestions continue to make this better and more user friendly.

The suggestions for additional columns should be reserved for the "Overview stats" tab. Please do not clutter up the view with secondary stat columns. Rank,AB, % owned and the five scoring categories for hitters and Rank, % owned IP and the five scoring categories for pitchers is perfect for the initial view. Cleaning up the decimals is fine but let's not overdo it.

Thanks
Joe

BB's isn't clutter. Not being able to look at ERA/WHIP and K/BB on one tab is a problem. Rank isn't a scoring category either, and it's much less important - if you want to de-clutter remove rank in favor of BB's.

Fair point, the problem is that the list is currently set up to default by rank. I guess it could be defaulted to % owned, that's a matter of personal preference. I'd just like to see consistency between the hitters and pitchers and right now we have that.

We all have certain categories we'd like to see. During this point in the season rank is a pretty good gauge of who's doing what. As the season progresses it becomes less, unless you click into smaller periods of time.

I'm fine with it defaulting to rank as a hidden column, or leaving it there if we can fit one more column, but it's difficult to evaluate a pitcher without being able to see ERA/WHIP and K/BB all together.

Now with this extra information, the FAAB page doesn't fit on my computer screen. I'm scrolling left and right too many times for this to be a good experience. The same thing happened with the set lineup page. One man's information is another man's clutter. Please keep this in mind. Thanks.

Thanks, Greg, for your prompt attention to this. I do have one of the first versions of the iPad, that could be the problem or it may be I had too much website data running in the background.

If others are having the same issues I was.....screen locking up and/or not downloading on an iPad, try this:

Got to: settings...safari...advanced...website data....click on remove all website data, or remove as much as you can.

When I did that, it allowed me to open the free agent page. It takes a couple minutes to load, but it does load.

Fine for me. Thanks. Happy Easter.

Is it just me or does everything take a really long time to load now? I love the own % being added, agree with an earlier poster, the "rank" could go. The ranking is flawed anyway, last week Luis Avilian was the best pitcher available in many of my leagues just because he had 2 wins and horrible ratios. For me at least, % owned is a better starting off point.
