Scouting report ...

Post by kgrady » Sun Aug 06, 2006 2:06 pm

I attended an independent minor league game this evening in NJ. The visiting Long Island Ducks had some familiar names on their roster. The heart of their order featured DH Bucky Jacobsen (former Seattle slugging prospect) in the clean-up slot, 1B Henry Rodriguez (former Expo a.k.a. H-Rod) batting fifth, and hitting sixth in RF was some guy named Juan Gonzalez. Juan Gone went deep in the first inning. One of the starting pitchers for Long Island is former Mets phenom Bill Pulsipher. Anyone think Juan Gone will ever make it back to the big leagues?

Jaun Gone still plays that's great! I was lucky enough to watch him in his last MLB game vs. the Twins only because I was at the game to interview Travis Hafner that day. If I remember right he had one AB and was done for the season. Too Bad really, he was one of the elite hitters of the 90's, didn't want to see him leave the Majors that way.

For spring training 2007, some AL team will invite him as a non-roster player. Could make it if he is healthy...big if.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.
