Mets kill Phillies

Can't remember being as down on the Phillies as I am after seeing the lowly Mets beat up on the Phils, winning 4 of 5 games.
Rueben Amaro Jr should now be fired. Going "old" this year.....I'll give him credit for having a "plan" but the plan didn't work, it won't work, and Phillies fans can get ready for some bad baseball over the next 5 years until the team can rebuild.
The team is old at every key position, and the two young players they have, Domonic Brown and Cody Asche, look like they can't play.

when I read this article I thought of your post here Ken, quite sad really. Oh where have you gone John Bowker ?

Glad we still have Chase/Jroll. Maybe wishful thinking by an obviously biased Phils fan, but was hoping a few more good yrs and we'd see them enshrined in HOF.
Speaking of HOF, here is a guy that will probably get no mention for it, but he certainly is in a very exclusive baseball club -
Bobby Abreu
what club? (I feel like a jr Doughboys writing like this

)
oh just Bobby and his 3 friends, Barry Bonds, Ricky Henderson, and Joe Morgan. The 4 of them have over 200 homers & stolen bases, and over 1400 walks

Good stuff there. Phillies missed the boat on Brandon Moss for sure. I'm a fan of Billy Beane, but let's remember one thing.....the Phillies had a decade long run of excellence, a world series title in '08 and another WS appearance in '09. So we as Phillies fans may be spoiled.....everything runs in cycles, the team is old and it's time to rebuild. Amaro put them into some bad contracts but bad contracts will expire eventually. We can get the big name free agents that we used to not be able to get. The team will recover but it's going to take 5 years.
Regarding Abreau - let's go to the numbers. Hall Of Fame? My opinion: he's close, but I'm saying NO.
On the positive - 6 seasons hitting .300 or better. 8 seasons of 100+ runs which is probably his best number. 400 steals. Long career.
On the negative -- the numbers just seem to fall short -- only 2 all star games. He's not going to get 3,000 hits, he's not going to hit .300 for his career. Look at the 10 most similar players to him at the bottom of his stat sheet. None of them are in the HOF (although Beltran might get there). No World Series appearances.
