50 Opinions

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Mon Aug 18, 2014 2:51 pm

Message Boards are about opinions.
One thing lacking from these Boards lately, are opinions.
Here are 50 opinions.
Feel free to disagree with any or all. They're just opinions....

1. Greg and Tom's show would be a lot better if they just said,
"Don't come to us with your trade offers! Nobody cares about trades except for the ONE caller involved! Besides, we don't do trades in the NFBC/NFFC....get in a real league!"

2.Greg and Tom will not do that. They're too polite to tell a listener, "No".
But, the show would be better if they did.

3. Give us a room at the Bellagio and a few hours in it, and I'll bet I can set up a 15 team/$350-500 auction for drafters there.

4. That injury to Miguel Cabrera had last year, extended to this year, and could extend to next year. I'm leery.

5. I have at least 10 friends who I would enjoy listening to while talking about baseball, more than Harold Reynolds.
Harold McCarver.

6. Use technology in baseball!
An umpire should explain some plays like a referee in football. A phone from the dugout to the bullpen should be replaced by a text to the bullpen coach. No 'visits' to the mound from the bench. Communicate through an ear piece.
Quit stalling our game when there is no need.

7.The catcher should be limited to one visit per inning to the mound.
I swear that Jorge Posada's toidy at home is located on a pitching rubber. It's natural that he goes there a lot.

8. 'Walk offs' celebrations have become

9. Most, automatically say that Andrelton Simmons is the best shortstop in baseball.
Hechavaria may be better.

10 Jason Heyward's WAR is stupid. No way around it.

11.The Braves win, somewhat, in spite of their Manager.

12. The Pirates win, somewhat, because of their Manager.

13. In a foxhole, there would be few players I'd rather have my back than Dustin Pedroia.

14. I have to remember that my fantasy roster is not a foxhole.

15. Kershaw equals Manning

16. Scherzer equals Brees.

17. Denny Neagle equals Kellen Winslow Jr.

18. Go get the surgery, Tanaka.

19. Why do they wait?

20. Next year, the Phils will still have a lot of old men on their roster.

21. Is there anything more raved about in the media, than a player hitting for the cycle?

22. A player who hits two homers, a double, and triple gets less love than a cycle hitter. Damned silly.

23. Prince Fielder, because of his injury and drafter opinions will drop down to the third round next year....or fourth.

24. Troy Tulowitzki, without the surprise of injury, will be taken in his same spot or higher.

25. Lucas Duda and Anthony rizzo have 50 homers between them. That's more than Jose Abreu and Miguel Cabrera combined.

26. Sorry, that was fact, not opinion.

27. Along with technology, score keeping needs to change in MLB. A bad fielders choice by a player should not drastically effect a pitchers ERA.
The official scorekeeper needs discretion over these runs.

28. Most broadcasters are no more than shills for their team.
It was so much better when broadcasters were employed by the media outlet, not the MLB team.

29. You can be the best fielder in baseball at a position, but the old axiom is true, 'If you can't hit, you ain't shit'
Say hello to the minors, Jackie Bradley.

30. Ian Desmond is a horrible Major League Shortstop, but he can hit.

31. Beards are boring.

32. West Coast teams are so much more interesting than East Coast teams this year.

33. Taking an idea from Steve Jupinka.....I would love to see a 50 player draft with no faab and no starting lineup.
Everything counts.

34. Can somebody in Canada send me a bag of those damn hot Doritos?
Sorry, not an opinion, a request.

35. The Mets paid 8 million dollars for Chris Young.
The Mets will never be winners unless spending money constructively. Their General Manager looks to fill holes, not build a future.

36. The Mets have something good in Daniel Murphy. I'm betting he'll be traded.

37. And the Mets will plug that hole at second base, instead of building.

38. Granderson is another hole filler. At .221 and 15 homers, he's an expensive, damned hole filler.

39. Josh Harrison plays several positions. He plays with self-controlled reckless abandonment.

40. Lawrie, Harper, and others of that ilk should watch videos of Harrison.

41. Guys like Harrison, Altuve, and Billy Hamilton are more fun to watch than Miggy, Tulo, and Cano.
But then again, I've never liked cruise control.

42. Thank you Paul Konerko for not having a Chipper/Mariano/Derek farewell.

43. Does Joey Votto take pitches in batting practice? Does he have taking practice?
Just asking.....

44. Devin Mesoraco leads Buster Posey in four of the five roto categories.
Devin Mesoraco will never be taken before Posey in next year's drafts.

45. Remember when Dylan Bundy was the NEXT BIG THING?
Trevor Bauer?
Archie Bradley?
Next BIG THING pitchers suck for Draft Championship rosters.

46. I STILL don't trust Huston Street.

47. When are the Reds going to get a real shortstop?

48. Experts say that Jose Fernandez has perfect form.
These same experts said that Chris Sale's form had many flaws.
Tommy John does not give a shit.

49. John Lester borders on looking like a dork in an A's uniform.

50. 50 opinions is harder than it looks.

Bonus:
Advertising works.
Go ahead....Say "She sounds hideous!"
Tough to say without a smile or thinking of the State Farm ad....
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

Good stuff Dan and I have to make sure you get at least one response to your work here. I can comment on the following numbers:
15. Kershaw is not equal to Manning. Manning has been doing it for 15+ seasons and will go down in history as the best QB to ever play. Kershaw may be the best pitcher in baseball, but please get back to me in another decade.
20. Ah, the Phillies. A decade of very good baseball and a WS title has been blown up in a few seasons of Ruben Amaro Jr and it isn't going to be fixed anytime soon.
25. I wish I could have gotten Rizzo this year. I did get Duda and have been pleasantly surprised.
35. - 39. Mets management is a joke. Although still better than the Phillies. Young & Granderson --- bad signings!! If only they had checked in with us on these boards, we could have saved them some money.
46. You should trust Huston Street. He's been a real good reliever for many years.

They are polite but a more plausible reason is that Greg has one eye watching the latest Packer game for the 15th time and Tom is looking at his latest football draft and saying to himself "yes, I am an expert."

Harold McCarver.
Disagree! I actually love listening to Harold Reynolds. Not as much as he loves himself but....

For sure!!

Hechavaria may be better.
Put me in the "most" category!

I think Prince gets drafted ahead of Tulo but you are probably right - third round.

Wish I had more shares of those first three!

Whoa - what would that draft look like?

They got the wrong Chris Young!
DOUGHBOYS wrote: 39. Josh Harrison plays several positions. He plays with self-controlled reckless abandonment.
How can you not love this guy?! Agree completely.
DOUGHBOYS wrote: 49. John Lester borders on looking like a dork in an A's uniform.
Ha ha - no doubt.

Thanks for the list Dan!

It is about Alex Gordon and not Jason Heyward, but I thought this was interesting article on FanGraphs today discussing the defensive aspect of WAR.

Or... maybe we're inserting our lineups at the wrong time.
Maybe we should be able to insert our lineups AFTER the week is over for DC Championships.
It would make for better lineups for everybody and less time spent on dealing with lineups.
And more of an emphasis on who is drafted in rounds 25-50.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
