Ha!
A year to forget for me as well, my friend.
Hopefully over the next two/three weeks, we'll learn the final fates of Darvish, Tanaka, and other players.
The overwhelming reason we don't start much earlier than the last week of the season, is that some drafters had the temerity to have good seasons and will finish this season before starting the next.

I really look forward to this draft. No media rankings, no adp, no default rankings.
Can't wait.

If you have an opening and if never having used the word "temerity" isn't a deal breaker.....would love to be in this league!

Ha!
Usually, four syllable words scare the hell out of me. : )
I'll put you down as first alternate if somebody pulls out this year, John.
Since starting the league a few years ago, we have had a couple of drafters pull out.

In case e-mail addresses have changed, I need responses from Emory Upchurch, Don Mathis, and Jon Statdmueller.
The 12 other league members are ready to go....

All 15 league members are back.
Draft spots have been given.
We will start this draft as soon as Friday, September 26.
I will post the first five or six rounds of this draft on these Boards.

Any guesses as to who goes in the first round?
Here are mine....

Trout
Stanton
Kershaw
McCutchen
M Cabrera
Goldschmidt
Ad Jones
VMartinez
Bautista
Abreu
Encarnacion
Tulowitzki
Altuve
Cano
C Gomez

Except for number 1, in no particular order....
Here is a look at last year's top 15 in this draft...

1 Trout, Mike
2 Cabrera, Miguel
3 Goldschmidt, Paul
4 Davis, Chris
5 McCutchen, Andrew
6 Cano, Robinson
7 Kershaw, Clayton
8 Gonzalez, Carlos
9 Braun, Ryan
10 Jones, Adam
11 Harper, Bryce
12 Votto, Joey
13 Stanton, Giancarlo
14 Hanley Ramirez
15 Carpenter, Matt

This, after several warnings not to draft Joey Votto :D

So what do you guys think?
Who should we draft in the first round in two weeks?

I just compared last year's premature draft to the final NFBC ADP. Some notes:

12 of the 15 were common
Included in the premature first round that were not in the final were Votto, Stanton, Carpenter.
Not included in the premature first round that ended up making the final adp were Ellsbury, Fielder, and Tulo.

Ha....after yesterday...it's good to be talking baseball instead of football injuries! Brutal.

Three days and we can start!
I don't know what I'm more looking forward to, seeing this fantasy season in my rear view mirror or being like the Brooklyn Dodgers and convincing myself that next year will be different from this one!

After Trout, I can see a lot of different possibilities with positioning of first round picks.
The standard (from last year) top 3 of Trout/Cabrera/Goldschmidt will not carry over.
Should be interesting.....

"We have had a few drafters pull out"...Am I the only one to see the pure genius of this line? Haha. Nicely played, sir.

The only thing better would be if Pausma had stated that if there was an opening that he would love to come into the league. Ok. Sorry. That was so bad. I apologize.

Hopefully you guys can post some round-by-round results to whet our appetites for upcoming drafts. Should be very interesting to see the year's first draft results.

ESPN.com's Tristan Cockcroft posted his Top 250 today on the site. Here's a look at his first rankings:

So the guy who did better than all these guys this year doesn't even stiff the first round? Interesting.

You would have to define 'did better than'.......

Ask the 2014 Chris Davis owners about chasing last year's one-hit wonder ... :(

I just looked....
Of these top 15, only Mike Trout who leads in runs scored is the only offensive player who actually led baseball in any roto category.
Looks like several players could 'be better than' these players.....

Although slightly flawed, the player rater is a pretty accurate indicator. Unlike Chris Davis, Jose Altuve has had quite consistent output in his time in the majors. Yes his BABIP was a bit high this year but he stole more bases and with better success. Add that he's a middle infielder and has been durable and he should be going in the middle of the first round.

I thought that may have been who you were talking about. :D
I'll bet Altuve could have been on the minds of some drafters.
I can only speak for myself. Altuve had a splendid year this year, but we're drafting for next year.

Let's say that he does repeat his numbers from this year, next year. Batting average is through the roof and we have a leg-up in the steals category.
Besides that, we have a guy who is only 20ish in runs scored. 100ish in rbi. 200ish in home runs.
Even though he excels in two categories, he remains only a two and one half category player.
I considered him. But I would have to get this year's numbers and maybe a little bit more to truly consider him a first round pick.
That said, he did go early in the second round. I believe he will be a consensus second round pick for the coming year.

No Phillies in the first round? No Marlon Byrd? No Cliff Lee? No Ryan Howard?
Unbelievable.

Awesome. It will be fun to spread the word about 2015 drafts the day after the MLB regular season ends. This is great stuff. Kershaw going 2nd overall will create a lot of buzz in the fantasy content arena. I love it. Keep the results coming!! :D

The value of a player is not solely based on the categories he excels at. Other than runs scored, Altuve's year matches Ichiro's first season pretty closely, at a time when offense was more abundant:

Altuve '14: .340/85/7/58/56
Ichiro '01: .350/127/8/69/56

Really interesting first round. Can't really take issue with any of the picks. Sad to see Brantley going in the first round - was kind of hoping he'd be priced lower for my own selfish reasons, but I guess he's no longer underrated.

Really curious to see where high risk/reward guys like Tulo, Cargo, Braun, Kemp, Puig, etc., get taken. Also curious about TJ or TJ risk pitchers like Harvey and Tanaka.

Keep the results coming. I participated in the first 50-rounder last year by email and loved the unpredictability and lack of any ADP info. (Needless to say, Dan, please count me in on this if you do it again.)
