Bambinos Wins Week 25 Prize

Post by Tom Kessenich » Mon Sep 25, 2006 2:21 am

Congratulations to Bambinos in Chicago League 2 for besting the NFBC field last week with 2,908 points.

Big weeks from Chase Utley (.538-3-8), Garrett Atkins (.360-2-10), Luke Scott (.333-4-13) and Kaz Matsui (.400, 5 SBs) led the way offensively. Aaron Harang and Clay Hensley had two wins apiece to lead the pitching. Harang, Hensley, Roger Clemens and Roy Oswalt also combined to fan 50 while Trevor Hoffman picked up 4 saves.

Bambinos Wins Week 25 Prize

A late-season surge can be a wonderful thing for a fantasy baseball owner. For Karl Mische in the NFBC, it not only enabled him to walk off with the first-place prize in Week 25 but it also has him squarely in line for an even bigger prize.

Mische’s Bambinos team in Chicago League 2 topped the NFBC field last week with 2,908 points. But that big week also has him in the Top 5 in the overall standings with only a few days of the season remaining.

“Last week it was fun watching Chris Young’s near no-hitter on television,” said Mische, a married computer programmer who lives in Rogers, MN. “Seeing Trevor Hoffman notch his record-setting save was enjoyable.

“Having four players post 8 or more RBIs was special. Luke Scott and Kaz Matsui were especially valuable.”

Mische went into this year’s draft using the past two season’s results as his guide for projections. So far, that plan has worked out rather well.

“I drafted with target numbers based on previous NFBC seasons and managed to hit most of the numbers with the exception of Stolen Bases,” he said. “I looked to draft plenty of speed but ended up reaching for Reggie Sanders and Dave Roberts.

“My sleeper, Brad Wilkerson, didn’t blossom in Texas and Jim Edmonds and Reggie Sanders struggled much of the year. But it was fun watching Garrett Atkins achieve big numbers.

“My rotation anchor, Roy Oswalt, along with Chris Young, Aaron Harang, Francisco Liriano and Roger Clemens, provided nice returns at their respective draft positions.”
