Looking For Feedback On Ultimate & Diamond Prizes
If we are going to offer a Diamond Auction League to go along with our Diamond Draft League, then we should consider another discussion on the prizes for that format. I will send out an email to the past players this week to spur on the discussion, but if there are new players out there who want to join this format here is a good place to add your thoughts.
Currently in the NFBC Diamond League, we pay down four spots. Why? Because the folks who first signed up for the Diamond League felt it would keep more teams competitive and in the hunt for prize money. At this entry level, that's important. So we give money back -- $10,000 -- to the 4th place team. Should we continue that or not? I know several people like that payout structure and some others have asked to change it. Here is our best chance to discuss it.
The payout for the Diamond League the last five seasons has been this:
Diamond Prize Table
Place League
1st - $75,000
2nd - $35,000
3rd - $20,000
4th - $10,000
Now, we could easily do it this way:
Diamond Prize Table
Place League
1st - $80,000
2nd - $40,000
3rd - $20,000
Or even this way:
Diamond Prize Table
Place League
1st $100,000
2nd $30,000
3rd $10,000
Let us know what you think. It's a good time to have this discussion before Registration opens. Have at it.
I think we will make a change in the NFBC Ultimate Draft and Auction prize structure as well. Right now we have it as:
Ultimate Prize Table
Place League
1st $40,000
2nd $17,500
3rd $10,000
I'm not quite sure why we emphasized third place so much in this format, but I'm strongly considering changing this to:
Ultimate Prize Table
Place League
1st $40,000
2nd $20,000
3rd $7,500
And is there any discussion on the Platinum prize structure? The $200,000 is the big carrot in this format, but a few owners asked if we were too top heavy. I'm open to any feedback here, but right now we have the prizes for this contest the same as we had last year, which was:
Platinum Prize Table
Place League
1st $200,000
2nd $60,000
3rd $25,000
Thoughts? We are looking for any and all feedback on these three contests. Thanks all.

To keep it simple, for any contests that pay the top three (whether a main event, ultimate, super, etc.) why not keep the percentage the same at 1st/2nd/3rd?
Also, I'm in favor of top 4 for the diamond auction.

Re: Looking For Feedback On Ultimate & Diamond Prizes
We do for the most part, but when it comes to these private leagues there is more of an emphasis on increasing the top league prize. That's coming from the participants, the ones who enter knowing they are going to take that league down!! I will set it up as requested by those participants, which is how we came to paying off four spots in the Diamond when we started that league in 2010.mdecav wrote:To keep it simple, for any contests that pay the top three (whether a main event, ultimate, super, etc.) why not keep the percentage the same at 1st/2nd/3rd?

Re: Looking For Feedback On Ultimate & Diamond Prizes
I would vote for Payout of top 4. How about penalty for finishing last? 15th place pays 5th $5,000. That would keep everybody fighting until the end! Sign me up for diamond auction. Make sure Brady is the auctioneer.

If you want more players to fight it out until the end ... add lesser prizes that come out of what is now 4th place money. This effectively penalizes the bad teams without touching the top 3.

2nd • $35,000
3rd • $20,000

Ugh. Just pay Top 3 like you do everywhere else. This isn't little league.
Take away the 4th place $10k and give it to 1st place, making it $85k.

1. Winner take all
2. Pay top 3
3. KJs idea to split up 4th place to 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th
4. Everything else

Re: Looking For Feedback On Ultimate & Diamond Prizes
I like $10,000 for fourth place for the diamond auction. Does first or second place really feel the extra $5,000 in their pocket? The impact is not as much as fourth place getting $10,000 back. I am guessing it would help it fill up quicker but with this group maybe means absolutely nothing.

I'm a fan of paying 4 places in Diamond leagues...adds to their character

Re: Looking For Feedback On Ultimate & Diamond Prizes
I like paying top 3 only, in all leagues. I suppose I am probably in the minority, but furthermore, I think 3rd place should just pay back the entry fee and maybe a bit more. The rest should be the top 2. I was not in the Platinum league but I LOVE the payout structure. Keeping that percentage should be the norm, in my opinion.
Re: Looking For Feedback On Ultimate & Diamond Prizes
I think the Diamond pay structure of:
Diamond Prize Table
Place League
1st - $75,000
2nd - $35,000
3rd - $20,000
4th - $10,000
is just right and shouldn't change.
Platinum is too top heavy. Should be more like Diamond
Agree with changing Ultimate to:
Ultimate Prize Table
Place League
1st $40,000
2nd $20,000
3rd $7,500

2nd - $35,000
3rd - $20,000

Re: Looking For Feedback On Ultimate & Diamond Prizes
Diamond league prize breakdown:
$100,000
$30,000
$10,000
Similar structure to the Platinum. Putting up $10,000 to win $75,000 vs 14 other opponents is not good enough for a private league, in my opinion. Winning this league is a huge accomplishment and winner should reap the benefits. Paying 4th place is not necessary.

Re: Looking For Feedback On Ultimate & Diamond Prizes
Just my opinion, but I think when 13 of 15 owners don't make money it makes it tough for this format to succeed long-term. It's a great one-year league and maybe it continues this way for years to come, but even after the Platinum last year I heard from folks who didn't win and those who did win that they felt the prize structure was too top heavy. Heck, it might have even contributed to the stress of the stretch run. I'm not saying that prize pool is wrong because it's a special, special league, but it certainly is harder now to fill the Platinum in Year 2 than it was in the Diamond each year after we paid down four spots.BK METS wrote:Diamond league prize breakdown:

I will definitely email all 15 owners in the Diamond Auction for feedback and I've gotten plenty of feedback already and will gladly offer three prize options. We'll go with the majority, even if we need to narrow the options to two and do a second vote, and go forward from there. But I do think more winners brings back more participants year after year and sustains the contest going forward. Again, just my opinion from what I've seen as a game operator.
