by KJ Duke
Getting the signup list going early this year. Draft start remains early-mid January. Last year we had a FAAB league, this year going back to the DC format. Last year's owners have first shot, but we usually have at least 1-2 openings (post interest below).

3. Alan Greenberg • Jeff Dobies
4. Matt Anderson
5. Shawn Childs
6. Bruce Pucci

13. Ted Cohan
14. Eric Albright
15. Bill Fearon
LEAGUE STRUCTURE
Team owners will contribute to the league pool based upon the MLB salaries of the players they select at a cost of $10 per $1 million in salary. For example, a player with a $20 million salary for the upcoming season would cost $200 to draft. The minimum player cost is $5 based on the league minimum $508k salary (all salaries rounded to the dollar).
Last season, team payrolls ranged from $38 million ($380 cost) to $370 million ($3700 cost). The average MLBC team payroll was $150 million, up from $137 million and $99 million in the previous two seasons. The top 3 scoring teams plus the team that most out-performs their team payroll (Manager of the Year) are in the money at season's end.
• 15 team, 50 round slow draft
• Team payroll based on first 30 rounds only
• Minimum to qualify for pitcher ratios = 1000 IP
• Drafted players must be expected to play in the majors this year (league commish will judge if needed)
The NFBC will pick draft slots based on owner KDS preferences.
Teams with lower draft slots will be given higher picks in the first two rounds following Round 30 - when salaries no longer count against your team payroll and the most valuable undrafted players with high salaries can be drafted at no cost. Accordingly, after Rd 30, the next 30 players (2 rounds) will be selected in the order shown below. (We'll pause the slow draft after R30 and enter these rounds once all are selected, then resume the normal snake draft in Round 33):
Draft slot:
#15 picks 1st and 13th
#14 picks 2 and 14
#13 picks 3 and 15
#12 picks 4 and 16
#11 picks 5 and 17
#10 picks 6 and 18
#9 picks 7 and 19
#8 picks 8 and 20
#7 picks 9 and 21
#6 picks 10 and 22
#5 picks 11 and 23
#4 picks 12 and 24
#3 picks 25 and 26
#2 picks 27 and 28
#1 picks 29 and 30

What I am thinking for draft slots is slightly different than last time we ran a DC format contract league. It's simpler than running auctions for draft slots and top leftover players, and I think it will help even out draft preferences. See rules addendum in first post.

I've heard back from 5 players so far, and we're 5 for 5.
Now 6 for 6.

Is there going to be an AB requirement or should we prepare ourselves for another team adopting last year's Gekma strategy ?
Regardless, we are in.

No min AB but must draft players expected to play ... so strategy still possible, just harder to pull off.

I know I was less than thrilled last yr at Gekma's strategy, (seemed like winning by taking a shortcut) but the more time to ponder

the more I had to just give it to them; genius attempt at grabbing MOY in my opinion. They would've easily if not for the Pucci

Seriously Bruce freaking kilt it last yr, MOY & damn near a top 3 finish.
Back to team Gekma, I recall most of my league mates poo-poo'd their chances at MOY, saying they didn't have ENOUGH pitching to pull off punting every hitting cat except BA. I knew those guys were wrong immediately. I've done battle in satellites with that bastard Pausma for yrs and Gekko, if you think he is just a mouth on these boards then please, be my guest, and get in as many leagues with him as possible.
That guy was on Kluber last yr more than ANYONE. The Cleveland beat writers didn't have as much faith in him as Gek. As a dfs guy I liked Kluber alot (K's = $) but thought I could get him late. No. No such luck. I had to have guys like Jarrod Parker & Patty Corbin
Anyways, this is the greatest league there is in fantasy sports and I'm just glad that KJ invites us back every year
Can't wait to "see" you guys in the draftroom.

Facts are facts. Gekma won nothing. They lost. No one cares about how "genius" the strategy was. David, you knew we were wrong immediately? What were we wrong about? They won NOTHING!!!!

Oh Alan...ever the ball-breaker

I wasn't trying to argue who's right/wrong, but to give Mark & John credit for nearly pulling if off. It will be interesting to see if any new strategies are attempted, especially w/ a NO-FAAB format.
It took a miraculous draft by Bruce Pucci to prevent Gekma from taking down MOY. They executed their plan to near perfection (72/75 pitching pts), and in almost any other yr would've won quite easily. That they came up just short doesn't obscure the fact that it was a sound strategy (for MOY).
KJ must agree or why is he going to ensure that is it harder to try it again.
Bruce was really in no-man's land with his payroll but made it work b/c he's obviously a genius (or at least was last yr
Same goes for you & JD, Congrats on winning the whole deal with a payroll that was not NY/BOS like

The worst part of it was dealing with STATS to try and get dead players and little leaguers added to the player pool. I don't want to do that again
I think part of Pucci's near-record MOY point total was the fact that more hitters were available because Gekkopaus didn't draft any. So, while they did a great job on both strategy and execution, part of the downfall of it was that by leaving so many hitting points in the player pool they allowed for a higher MOY total by another team. That, and a great job by Pooch.
Every one of these seems to have a surprise element. Get ready for the unexpected!

I know my dude. I was too harsh on Gekma for coming in thru the back door last yr and just wanted to give them props for trying a different path.
KJ is right (what else is new

) by leaving those bats out there it enabled someone (Pooch) to capitalize. Maybe if it had been a high $ team taking advantage of those bats Gekma probably roll to MOY, but Pooch wasn't having it
Fair warning; if I hit the Slam b/w now & draftday Jordan B is gonna have some comp

I think the Phils should consider that Tiger as a replacement for JRoll

It looks like we are full. EA Sports is taking Fleming's spot, and Fearon will get back to me tomorrow to take the last spot or it will go to the Cleaver if Fear doesn't grab it.
If anyone else is interested please post below in case someone drops closer to draft day.

This should be fun! Early prediction:
Childs - back to a 40 benchmark team
Lowy - doesn't have enough places to spend all of his money - going big, over under set at $3800
Matt - investing his winnings into another high payroll team once he sees Childs going cheap
Greenberg / Dobies - never a doubt - battling lowy for top spend
Pucci - we won't know until round 20
Norred - steinbrenner
Shovein - trying to pull a pucci
KJ - buying players like they are oil stocks poised for a rebound
Weber - put him down for a 40
Pausma - Fox News - fair and balanced
Cohan - 40
Roger / Doughy - 20 if there was such a thing
Albright - whatever his spreadsheet tells him
missing a couple....can't wait!

Last year was fun. Glenneration X with a crazy 2nd half comeback for 3rd hurt. I might switch it up a bit this year

2 years of 4th place is getting to me.
