2015: The year of Strasburg

Not quite sure why but I have a feeling that 2015 is the year that Steven Strasburg puts it all together and we see a 20 win season, WHIP @ 1.0 or below, ERA 2.50 or below along with his usual K output.

It says here that at the end of the year Strasburg would be worthy of the # 1 draft pick in any of these drafts.

I don't think Strasburg has went in the first rd yet. I guess that means you haven't done any drafts or you just running off at the mouth. I think I heard the same thing last year and how Harper was going 40/40 and all kind of crazy shit that you hear this time of year.

I recall a certain super computer pointing to a 50-30 ceiling for Harper last year

Reality...those numbers aren't even as good as Kershaw last year.
Kershaw has not been taken number one in any draft.

1. I guess you haven't done any drafts yet. WRONG. I did the recent $250 auction which is going to be my only team this year. And no, I didn't get Strasburg because he went for $37. I didn't want to spend that high on a staff ace.

2. You are just running off at the mouth. WRONG. I'm giving you a prediction. That's what these boards are for.

3. You didn't hear that kind of talk from me on Harper as he's yet to prove anything other than getting hurt a lot.

What else do you have?

Reports on several twitter feeds are saying now that Scherzer is going to Nats, Strasburg is "very available" in a trade.
Maybe you're right. Maybe Stras will win 20 in '15. But it might be for another team.

Ken, was he the highest dollar pitcher at $37?
I don't do many auctions, I don't really know what the going price is...

yeah im in the process of calculating the dollar values now but 37 for any pitcher is going to be on the high side. Maybe Kershaw calculates to that but certainly not Stras. I would think in the 20 to 25 range would more appropriate.

In the 2 auctions I ran he was the 7th and 10th most expensive player off the board, $38 and $36. Auctions are interesting because you see how much someone wants a player, and clearly there were at least two owners in both auctions that wanted him more that where they'd need to take him in a draft.

I'm with Toxic and those paying big dollars for Strass. This is the year. I'm hoping he stays a National. Actually I am hoping he becomes a Brewer but even that wouldn't begin to take the pain out of the McCarthy / Packer debacle yesterday!

Picking career years is a tough task. Strasburg has a lot of things going for him. He's another year removed from Tommy John. Another year of both mind and arm maturity. Pitches on a good team in a weak hitting division.
Fuly understand how somebody can go all-in on him.
For me personally, I remember him struggling on super hot days. The heat just seems to kick his ass.
One day in particular, in Atlanta.
Body language told everybody in the park that he was going to struggle.
Everything in his body language said that he couldn't wait to come out of the ball game.
He, also tends to struggle in spurts. Meaning he'll give up a single to a weak hitter and it leads to a three run inning.
To me, he hasn't mentally mastered his craft. Talent/wise, he may be the best in the game.

He has started 109 games in his career. Gone over seven innings, just nine times.
Some of those starts, he could have gone longer, but the Nats were trying to save wear and tear.
Still, to me, he has become a 6/7 inning ace.
This isn't to de/mean him. It just means a few less Wins to me.
The Nats have treated him with kid gloves. Maybe a different city would be good for him.
Still, pitching for the Nats is about as good as it gets for any MLB pitcher....

Aces have gone for premium prices in the auctions we've run this month. Kershaw has gone for $45, $44 and $43. Strasburg went for the princely sum of $40 in the most recent auction.

don't sound like anyone saving any money for hitters in these auctions. I guess whoever didn't get caught up in overspending for the pitching should enjoy some easy money.

It's like a $150 DC vs Main Event vs Ultimate vs Diamond. Its easier to draft a player you really want a round or two (or more) earlier in a cheaper league the same way its easier to overpay for Strasburg (or any other player) when $125 or $250 is on the line compared to 5 or 10K. Just my two cents.

Dan -- I had to go back to RT sports and look it up....Kershaw went for $45, King Felix was $39 and Strasburg was actually $38, a buck more than I thought. Those were the top 3 guys.

Yeah, somebody had the same love for Strasburg as you. I Hate drafts like that! :D
Like said before, it could happen with Strasburg. There is no denying the talent.
I just doubt that even with better numbers than you posted, that a pitcher would go number one.
We could imagine a non-Troutian world, but then some other hitter would probably garner most #1's with a big year.
We are just a hitter slanted community.
