I went back and looked at fantasy-relevant pitchers (likely to be drafted in DC leagues) that had TJ. Since the NFBC began in 2004, here are the numbers. Below shows totals for SP/RP, plus SP only broken out.
2014: 27 (17 starters)
2013: 22 (10 starters)
2012: 31 (20 starters)
2011: 17 (11 starters)
2010: 15 (8 starters)
2009: 15 (8 starters)
2008: 11 (7 starters)
2007: 15 (8 starters)
2006: 13 (6 starters)
2005: 9 (4 starters)
2004: 10 (3 starters)
Summary for Starting Pitchers
• In the first 2 seasons of the NFBC, 3-4 starting pitchers went down each season for 2004-2005
• In the next 5 seasons it doubled, 6-8 starting pitchers for 2006-2010
• In the last 4 seasons, it has doubled again, averaging 15 for the years 2011-2014
In a 15-team league, everyone should expect to lose one of their starting pitchers to TJ each season, and odds are with a little (bad) luck a couple teams per league are likely to lose 2 or even 3 starting pitchers.
