Question from a first time participant

Good evening. First off my thanks to Tom for taking time to walk me through the live Primetime process. I will be participating in my first event in Las Vegas on March 27th at 10 AM. I'm a Las Vegas resident so this made a lot of sense. For those coming to town we have been having tremendous weather. Just got done golfing it was 76 degrees hopefully the weather will cooperate usually late March and April we have ideal weather especially those coming from the colder areas.
I have a question on the draft. I understand the process as Tom explained it to me. I'm trying to figure out keeping track of who,is drafted so I don't become that guy who spits outs names for players already drafted. It was explained that as names get called someone will be entering the names updating team rosters. I see the Tools available on the website will the names be removed from a queue online that can be accessed or do I need to provide my own listing and remove names as their drafted. I'm bringing a friend to keep track for me either way. I haven't done a live draft since the mid 80's I'm really looking forward to the atmosphere. Love baseball long time Pirate fan. Grew up watching Clemente at Forbes Field.

Welcome aboard!
The NFBC usually provides a list of players sorted by eligible position. I'm not sure how it's ranked within the positions (I never use their sheet

)
You could also print out a copy of the most current ADP (average draft position). Names won't be called out in that exact order of course, but it won't be too far off in the early rounds.
I myself bring a spreadsheet with my own rankings. I line-out names as we go. I know a lot of people keep track of the other teams during the draft; I'm 50/50 on that, sometimes I do, other times not.
No matter what method, I would use something...........

Great! You must be about my age. San Francisco and Mays/McCovey/Marichal for me.
I think I am in that draft. I will try to help you any way I can and am sure others will as well. If calling out a name drafted, it's no biggie. You may get ribbed a bit.
Short story, I was in a draft at home many years ago when somebody called out Sammy Sosa. This was before Sosa was a big star with the Cubs and making his way with the Rangers.
Anyway, he calls out Sosa's name and two or three drafters yell out, "TAKEN !!!'
The embarrassed drafter says, "Oh yeah, it was me! I took him three rounds ago."
The ease of these live drafts will take you aback. Everybody is there to help and defeat you
Have fun. I know you will.

Keep in mind, however, that the clock doesn't reset,so if you wait until near the end of your time and call out a name already drafted you may be skipped and then have another chance before the following pick.
The draft is shown electronically but at least in past years, there wasn't a corresponding electronic list we could all access. Also keep in mind there's no power (but plenty of juice) at the draft tables if you want to use a rectangular device of some sort.

As Russell said, you can print out copies of our ADPs so you have the top guys at each position on paper in front of you. You can bring a copy of a magazine and cross off the names on those Cheat Sheets. You can bring a computer program and enter the picks in yourself and have the top available players right there for you. Bring whatever helps you keep track of the available player pool, but it's up to YOU to do that. We provide the drinks, the food, the competitors, the draft board and the fine facilitators and you have to know the player pool and pick the best players.
Simple enough. We'll help where we can, but figure out what form of Cheat Sheet you are going to bring with you and then we'll go from there.

Thanks understood. Wanted to make sure there wasn't something that queued up on the site. Everyone travel safe.

For what it is worth, whatever you bring to track:
1) keep it simple - I still tick off players manually. It is easier to get lost if you try to do that over many pages. Some use one or two big sheets, some steal a cardboard box from the kitchen and past 8 1/2 by 11's so they can see the whole picture, some track by adp. Whatever works for you, but the simpler the better.
2) If you plan on using a computer draft program, better plan on an extra battery. Sometimes outlets can be a problem.
3) Plan on having fun. Everyone is serious, but some guys have their nose down the entire time and miss some of the best moments.
4) As my pick approaches, I generally try to have a few players highlighted (some can keep it in their minds, I literally use a highlighter which, I think, is why Glenn always steals my picks

). Seriously, I have never had anyone try to catch a glimpse at my notes, so do not worry about someone stealing your next winner.
5) Like I said, I track manually. Once, in my mind, I have selected the player I want to pick, I write his name down on the sheet I am using to track my team. Then I call the name out. That way I am not worried about writing and listening at the same time (I am only smart enough to do one thing poorly at a time)!
