Josh Hamilton

Looks like Josh Hamilton is in big trouble. Sources say it's worse then PED's.
Anyone want to take any guesses?
I'm guessing the Angels are hoping to get off the hook?

If the story is accurate, wouldn't it be an upset if it wasn't a drug addiction relapse? Between his injury, a possible suspension and rehab, he might not see the field this year.

I'm thinking the same thing.
I'm having mixed feeling about this situation though. I don't know if I should feel bad for this guy or what?
The guy is making $25 million a year. Where is his support system? Who is to blame--his agent/the Angels/only himself?

Anyhow, this looks like this might open the door for a trade for Ethier or Victorino?

A player gets more games under the JDA for "drugs of abuse" than PEDs, I think. In that sense it might be "worse" than PEDs but I'd argue that it's "worse" to use a substance to actively "cheat" at baseball than it is use a "drug of abuse" (just cheatin yourself, maaaaan).

Either way, Hamilton: Great guy with a great contract. Can't wait for his next sanctimonious/faux-contrite soapbox lecture to the media.

First and foremost, Josh Hamilton is responsible for Josh Hamilton. Everybody knows his history and the comeback was a great story. You can have the best support system in the world, however, if you don't utilize the support system, that is your fault. If the individual is serious about their recovery they will use all the tools at their disposal to the fullest.

It is easy to use your support system when things are going well; it is much more difficult if your beginning to struggle. No one wants to admit when things begin to frustrate us or we are beginning to get the urge to use. If all it took to get clean and sober was to put down the drink and/or drug, we wouldn't need treatment centers, self help meetings or a support system.

Josh has relapsed a few times and I have no idea what his longest period of sobriety has been. I do know, if nothing changes, nothing changes. If I'm not mistaken his marriage was on the rocks (not sure); going to strip bars may have helped with that. That type of behavior is "old" behavior and needed to change.

The number one key to sustained sobriety, in my opinion, is honesty. If one can't tell on themselves, they will not be successful. The Anaheim Angels are not responsible for Josh Hamilton's sobriety and they are not responsible for his relapse. The only entity that will get Josh clean and sober is Josh; PERIOD!! He is constitutionally incapable of being honest with himself and will suffer the consequences.

I have worked in the field of mental health and addiction fro 20 years and have been clean and sober for over 30 years. I have lived the Josh Hamilton life (no not being a baseball superstar making 25m a year) but being down a nd out in the gutter and getting clean and sober. The difference, I continue to live one day at a time and try to be honest in all my affairs.

This is just another sad story, however, Josh is still alive, I know many who will never get another opportunity.

It's great to hear someone's opinion that works in that field. Habits/Behavior can be really hard to change. Congrats on your beating your challenges. Keep moving forward man.
