Okay, I apologize for being away from the NFBC Message Boards for the last three weeks, but I had a family dilemma that needed my full attention during that time. It came at an ideal time as even I needed a little break from the baseball season.
But it's time to rev up the NFBC boards again and I'll get to that this week. My goal is to create baseball content on this site and to turn some of my best customers into content providers. I will send out an e-mail with all of my thoughts soon, but if you're a regular Message Board poster who is willing to provide insightful baseball comments, I'll make it worth your while this year.
Here's the plan:
1) I'd like to assemble at least 15 die-hard NFBC participants who are willing to contribute to questions of the week and aren't afraid of others seeing their honest answers. My goal is to touch on key baseball topics and have these 15 owners lead the discussion on this topic. That should lead to meaningful debates on the boards involving all of our key NFBC participants.
2) Secondly, I'd like to do regular mock drafts with these die-hards throughout the off-season and analyze those early picks. The goal would be to draft just the first two rounds early on and talk about the strategies involved with each pick. Maybe we expand to four rounds later on and maybe even deeper. But the goal is to just use this as a starting point to get folks talking about the draft year-round. Hopefully these owners will discuss different strategies with their picks without disclosing their full strategies before Draft Day.
3) Thirdly, I'd like these members of this NFBC panel to help me with rankings of each position, giving me updated Top 20 lists similar to what Footballguys.com does so well. We can make these anonymous lists as there's no reason to list these other than Team A, Team B, etc. The goal for me would be to compile an NFBC Top 20 list from each individual ranking, rather than just showcasing each individual owners' Top 20 lists. Showing players moving up or down each week would be fun and informative.
There are many other ways to provide content on the Message Boards and make these a great baseball conversation place rather than nit-picking among owners and I'm willing to pay for that with the right owners. I have a list of owners who will receive invitations to help me get this off the ground, but if anyone is interested in being involved, let me know. In late March, I'll reward these owners by running a free satellite league for them and reward the overall champion with a free 2008 NFBC entry. Trust me, the content is well worth the $1,250 expense.
This isn't for everyone, but it's an idea I've had for some time. I'll e-mail my thoughts to all NFBC owners this week and get as many people involved as possible. It's time to put the people who are winning these contests out front and center if they want to be and surround baseball discussion around their thoughts and ideas. Let's create meaningful baseball content on this site each day and turn the real players who know their baseball stuff (not me and Tom!) into content providers.
Let me know if you're interested, but you have to be in for the long haul. Die-hard baseball folks who can write regularly, express their opinions openly and have been successful in the past are welcome. Thanks and let's get this site buzzing again.
