Here's A Work Around To Get Text Alerts For DC Picks

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Thu Mar 05, 2015 9:54 pm

I was talking on the phone last week with one NFBC owner who is in several NFBC Draft Champions Leagues and we were talking about ways to make them better. He said he created a work-around with the emails that give him a text alert when he's going to be up soon with his pick. This allows him to not sit around waiting for his next pick because he has created a text alert to let him know when he's up.

I thought it was such a good idea that I asked him if he could forward me the instructions on how to do this. I know many of you are tech savvy and may want to do this as well. So here's the directions if you have a G Mail account:

Here are the Gmail instructions for creating the filter that forwards a text to my phone when it's my turn in a Draft Champions league. It sounds complicated with all of the steps but it's really not too bad and you only have to do it once. Here you go:

1) Log in to your Gmail account
2) Click on the settings cog on the right and choose "Settings"
3) Click on "Forwarding and POP/IMAP"
4) Click the "Add a forwarding address" box
5) Check this page to see examples of how to find the cell phone email address for each carrier
6) Type in your phones email address and hit next
7) Click Proceed
8) Get the confirmation code from the text sent to your phone, type it in the Verify box and hit Verify
9) In the search bar at the top click on the downward facing triangle on the right side of the bar (next to the blue magnifying glass)
10) In the From box type the email address that picks are received from (so for football [email protected])
11) In the "Has the Words" box type "<INSERT TEAM NAME HERE>, is currently on the clock" (or leave that blank if you want a text every time someone in the league makes a pick)
12) Click "Create filter with this search at the bottom right of the box
13) Check the "Forward it to" box and choose your cell phone address
14) Click the blue "Create Filter" button

Let me know if this works and good luck all.

I too had been doing this, just thought I'd really love if my leaguemates did too -- so I searched the forums to see if someone had posted these instructions already.

So in bumping this topic up, I'd just like to say, PLEASE do this if you're in a DC league! I'm sure if even half the owners had text alerts when it was their turn, these drafts would speed up tremendously.
