Didn't see that one coming, a good offensive half season and you win an MVP award ... anyone agree with this selection ?

I honestly thought Derek Jeter would win this one, but now we have two first basemen as MVP winners. Interesting.

I think the problem with the MVP award is it's difficult to determine who the most valuable player in the league and what that actually means. Is it, who's the most valuable player to prospective team, or is it, who'd be the most valuable player on any team? That is a distinction that should be made very clear as to what MVP actually defines.
I would argue that Michael Jordan should have won the MVP award just about every year he played, as there was no better, or more valuable player in basketball.
I think the MVP award is based more on circumstances than true value. I'm sure that isn't easy to hear but from what I've seen, it seems to be the truth. I'm one of those people that loved that fact that Andre Dawson won the MVP award on a last place team. He simply was the most valuable player in the league......despite circumstance.

Part of the problem is the lack of definition on what the award is and the other part is some of the moron sportswriters who vote on this award - the guy from Chicago had Jeter SIXTH on his ballot behind... ex-Chisox Frank Thomas - give me a break.

Love it!!! Finally, there is not any east/west coast bias. This is the year of the Midwest - from college to pro. GG is crying in his beer and Perry in his wine. GO MIDWEST! (Is Ohio St in the midwest?)

I have very little faith in sports writers and don't read them. Not surprised a Chi writer listed Jeter 6th. We've had some in Chicago that are now in the hall of fame in Cooperstown that after 50 years in the business covering baseball don't have a clue about the game. I pretty much ignore the awards and don't care about them considering how they come about. Sorry Greg. Your an exception of course. If you want some cheap entertainment go to the CBSSPORTLINE site and check out their "experts" mock draft there. To say it's laughable is an understatement. They have Halladay and Peavy going as the 13th and 14th picks overall. Carpenter went ealier. Morneau was also in the first round. I wish I could play against them. My wallet would truelly appreciate it.

Jermaine Dye was voted AL MVP by his fellow Al players and managers.I would have voted Jeter#1,Ortiz#2,and Dye#3.
