Does Soriano really deserve a pick before Utley?

I am surprised Soriano is getting hyped so much? I don't feel he should go before Utley. If you look at the difference in stats you could get with Utley over the other 2nd baseman, Utley as a top 5 pick is almost a no-brainer.

With Kent getting older and Soriano moving to the outfield, it's clear to me that Utley will dominate the 2nd base position more than anybody has in the last 10 years.

Soriano could very well hit .260 and have a 30/30 year, throw in 100 runs, and WHALA, he's a very good 2nd round pick....but far from a top 5.

I would be interested to hear what Mr. Ambrosius thinks about my argument.

I would be interested to hear what Mr. Ambrosius thinks about my argument. I don't know about Mr. Ambrosius, but Mr. Tooth agrees with Utley being the cream of the 2B crop. I don't see him as a top 5 pick though currently...close and wouldn't argue with those who grabbed him there, but unlike most others, I think the 2B position is starting to really improve itself. There are several good players on the way to coming into their own that can be grabbed in later rounds, who are not as good, but considering draft slots/rounds, may provide better value.

Guess we'll have to wait and see...

As for checking with Greg, if it's to compare Utley to Weeks...sorry Greg, but not close...at least not yet, although Weeks could surprise in SBs category...

Utley should be a first rd pick, but Soriano's speed gives him a clear edge over expectations for Utley.

First run-thru for '07 projections, Reyes looks like the other guy who should go ahead of Soriano.
