Draft Order Doesn't Matter?

In the Platinum FAAB for draft order, the 1st pick(Trout) went for over $600. The 2nd pick was in the hundreds of dollars.
The 15th pick was bought for $1.

Pre-season it seems to mean a lot, especially this year, when there is a clear-cut number one player going into the season. There also is a clear-cut "best" SP going into the season. All that being said, I do seem to recall Greg or Tom doing a thread listing the draft slots of the Main Event league winners and there was not all that much correlation between winning leagues and draft slots. It will be interesting to see how things work out this year. I've been going straight 1-15 in my KDS, so I'd obviously prefer as low a draft slot as possible, but I've never really felt disadvantaged by the "normal" snake draft in those leagues where I've wound up with a high slot (although they admittedly were not big dollar leagues by NFBC standards). You can win or lose from any slot. I'll be curious to hear whether the Platinum League participants wound up liking the FAAB auction for draft slots more than the usual random draw (and, if so, whether there is a feasible way to extend the concept to other "big money" leagues next year).
