Nolasco that is. He is consistently dreadful.

Before the 2010 season, I had a buddy telling me how good Ricky Nolasco was. When I tried to discuss Ricky's lack of success, I was told, "You've got to look at his peripherals."

I responded, when Ricky's ERA is 5.06, I can't get to his peripherals.

I stand by my statement and hope somebody has started Nolasco in every one of my leagues.

Peripherals are great to look at and can be useful to determine future success but they are not the end all. I remember Kevin Slowey being touted for his outstanding control peripherals.I bought into his "peripherals" one year and regretted it to this day. The problem was that the hitters knew he always threw strikes and he could not keep the ball in the park and suffered from a bad case of gopheritis. Peripherals mean nothing if the pitcher can't get outs and keep runners off the bases.

How often do we hear that a pitcher was injured shortly after getting lit up? A couple times each year this happens and the pitcher hits the DL shortly thereafter.

Ricky Nolasco
Nolasco felt something in his elbow and flew back to the Twin Cities on Thursday to have it checked out, MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger reports. The elbow pain popped up during a pitch to Alex Avila in the third inning Wednesday. Last year he tried to pitch through pain like this, but apparently he has learned his lesson. Obviously this is pretty concerning, and the Twins have to be crossing their fingers as they are already down a starter (Ervin Santana) for half the season. Manager Paul Molitor said it was "way too early" to speculate whether Nolasco would make his scheduled start Monday.

Who's next? Matt Latos, Kyle Lohse, Ross Detwiler, ...

At least Nathan owners got a save as a nice going away present.
