Ummm.... The Mets?

Ok. So I have been quiet about this for a while and although the shoe will drop at some point, I would like to point out that there is a team that plays in the best stadium in NYC, who has won 11 straight games. Might we soon be saying "Bartolo Colon, Cy Young?"

Now that I have put the jinx in on their streak, anyone have any thoughts on this accomplishment, considering they have lost to injury one of their top starters, their closer, their catcher, and their best position player?

Anyone?

I think Matt Harvey is the man.

I think he has created a buzz in that stadium.

I think players respond to crowds that cheer the entire game.

Matt Harvey has saved the Mets.

Mets fans can rightfully crow a little about the good start. Good young pitching staff, and the M Cuddyer signing looks like a good move.

Mets future looks much brighter than my team's -- the Phillies.

I'm a Mets fan since day one. And their team is much improved this year. But how historically bad is the NL east this year.

Say what you want about Bartolo. He throws strikes and hits nearly every location he wants. 23-1 K/BB ratio. Harvey with only one walk as well, I believe.

11 in a row has to be tempered by the fact that the victories came against Atlanta, Miami, and Philly.
Three teams that may possibly struggle all year.
All this stuff about doing it without a good pitcher, good catcher and best position player is 'press stuff'.
Wright is their best PAST player. Truth be told, he hasn't been feared for a long time.
Pitchers would rather throw to Wright than Cuddyer or Duda or Murphy, but that's just my opinion.
Mejia couldn't have done any better than Familia. He may have even blown a game.
WITH those players, they may have lost a few games.
That all being said, 11 in a row IS 11 in a row.
It's just as good beating the teams that should be beaten as it is splitting with the good teams.
The Mets are doing all the right things.
It's Impressive.

Its simple, if you watch him pitch. He doesn't throw hard, maybe 89-90. He throws one pitch 90% of the time, his fastball. He uses 3 different fastballs, based upon hitter and location. Plus he is Mr. cool on the mound, chewing gum, blowing bubbles, and getting guys out. He gives up hits all of the time. He just doesn't walk anyone..... if you relate that to something more than a skilled veteran pitcher, then so be it. You don't have to be physically fit or throw hard, to be a good pitcher.

This is the MLB. There are no "easy" teams. Miami was picked by many to win the NL East. Atlanta started out 5-0. And as far as Wright, he is by FAR, the most feared hitter on the Mets. No one fears Murphy. Duda is gaining respect this year and Cuddyer is a professional hitter, but Wright is not only their best hitter, he is their leader and captain. Your point about Mejia is exactly my point. When most teams lose their closer, the next guy doesn't come in and get 8 saves in 11 days. Its a credit to the Mets to building this team from their farm system and not just going out and buying a bunch of high priced free agents. Love or hate the Mets, they have stuck to their roots and against popular fan opinion, have given an opportunity for their young guys to shine, even though they initially struggled mightily (Flores/Lagares/Duda) This is a credit to the Mets organization. They wont keep up this pace, but it is refreshing to see a bunch of guys who were in their system, play together and grow.

There are easy teams, Alan. Look at the bottom of the standings in the NL East. You'll see them.
Just because folks pick a team to be good, does not make them a good team.
I get that you're a Wright fan. So am I. Love him.
But he has not been feared for a long time. Seriously.

This reminds me of 1984 or 1969, well so I hear regarding '69 , but I digress.... Back then for both of those years, the Mets were able to come out of nowhere after a long string of losing seasons. They were able to do so because while they were losing, they were also spending that time building with youth and pitching, and when ready and after a couple wise veteran additions, they were able to shock the world.

World, be prepared to be shocked yet again!!

Jeez, I haven't heard a PEEP (for weeks) from the law firm of Greenberg and Lowy! Could it be (as always) the typical Mets run to the top every year (the first few weeks of the season), their great fans coming out of the woodwork to chirp, and then within a few weeks silence for the rest of the year!!

Jeez, I haven't heard a PEEP (for weeks) from the law firm of Greenberg and Lowy! Could it be (as always) the typical Mets run to the top every year (the first few weeks of the season), their great fans coming out of the woodwork to chirp, and then within a few weeks silence for the rest of the year!!

Only 1/2 game out of first place and 5 games over .500. I will take it for June 1st. We will see.
