shut down with lower back pain. This just 2 days after the mets said he was "probably" about a week away. 75% chance he is out for year. 20% chance his career is over. 5% chance he dies from this. the mets originally said it looked like it was minor and the 15 day dl stint would be all he needed. i also love the way they are babying harvey- but have no problem having their best pitcher- the 40 year old guy that weighs more than my house- pitch 8-9 innings.

The Mets seem to be notorious for not releasing injury information or releasing misleading information. Wheeler is another example, and I'm sure Mets fans can name a few more examples over the last couple of years. While I think you have to take all injury information with at least a grain of salt, with the Mets you need a trunkful.

I hear ya, about David Wright. The guy is always injured and Harvey is now the leader of the team. As far as Harvey, they are not babying him. He went out for the 9th inning to pitch a complete game against the Yankees, even after giving up 2 runs and they left him in, until he walked a guy on 4 pitches, his first since the Reagan Administration. They let him pitch 105-110 pitches, which is generous since he is coming off of TJ surgery and off for an entire year. You have to put some kind of limit on Harvey or he will want to pitch 200 pitches. I think they give him a long leash and I have watched every inning.

I don't think Wright really matters a whole lot anymore. With Murphy at 3rd and Herrera at 2nd, I think they have a good combo and they are in first place without him.

bk- ya good points. i just threw harvey out there because i need to bring up colon. we will see about him. they will need him down the stretch. harvey- i think he is the leader and he also seems to be setting a little of his own agenda- which i like. if i played for the mets i would definitely have my own doctor.

Just two short weeks ago, you wrote this....

Now, he is someone that really doesn't matter anymore?
I don't get fandom. I never will.
Is it rationalization?
David Wright has been replaced (in your mind) as the leader of the Mets?
In two weeks?
How does that happen?
Because the Mets continually lie about injury length?
The Mets. Not Wright.

In my mind, Wright is still the leader and Captain of the Mets.
I saw Cuddyer speak with reverance about Wright.
About Harvey, he said that it's tough to get close to him because of the models hanging around him.
The insinuance being that Harvey is more enjoying success than being a guy other Mets can go to.

On the other hand, Wright is nowhere near the performer that Harvey is.
His best days are behind him. Harvey's are in front of him.
Still, I would think of him as the leader of that team more than Harvey. Harvey has personal agendas and to his credit, does not follow Mets Management blindly (thankfully) as Wright does.
Two weeks ago, Wright was the Mets most feared and best hitter in your mind.
Not in mine.
Yet, you argued the point.
Now, kicked to the curb.
Abandoned.
I swear, I will never get fandom.

'Wright has been shut down after his back flared up on him, but Mets manager Terry Collins said the club is just being careful because of Wright's past back issues. The third baseman's right hamstring no longer appears to be of concern, as he had been slated to begin a rehab assignment Saturday before the setback. It sounds like Wright could still have a shot to return at some point next week.'

As a rule of thumb, I try not to read any sentence that starts or ends or has in the middle....'Terry Collins said'...
It is not good for fantasy team's health.

Thanks Doughy. You managed to put this so much better than me. A Mets guy calling David Wright expendable after 2 weeks is almost as silly as saying someone BORN during the Bush administration hasn't walked a batter since the Reagan Administration. You can do better than that Alan!
