Greg Holland Removed From Chicago League 2

We rarely jump in and remove free agents from leagues, but this week an owner in Chicago League 2 of the Main Event decided to cut Greg Holland and dump saves. As stated in our rules, you are allowed to cut anyone you want but the NFBC has the right to remove that player from that league's free agent pool. We have removed Greg Holland from this league and he will not be added back in this year.

In this case, we feel this is the only Main Event League where Holland would be available via FAAB this early in the season and it could allow one team to gain the type of advantage that the 435 other Main Event owners don't have. Removing one available player from this league is the best way to handle this move.

We did reach out to the owner involved and he feels that he has no chance in saves and is going for the gusto with Starting Pitchers. This was not a dump to get FAAB out of fellow owners, it was a strategic move on his part. He understood our decision as well. And in the best interests of the overall contest, we feel it's best to remove Holland from Chicago League 2.

Hope that explains our decision. Good luck all the rest of the way.

Wow. Dropping one of the top closers in the game? And who now appears healthy for the most part? Never understand why people are so quick to "punt." There are 4 1/2 months left in the season which is an eternity, ya have one of the top closers in the game, with, if nothing else solid ratios and high strikeouts, closing for one of the top teams in MLB. There will be plenty of Save chances moving forward for what looks like a contending Royals club, with plenty of "Save" opportunities down the road off the waiver wire, I'm sure. While I don't understand the particular team dynamics that led to this decision, it seems like over-managing at best, and a drastic panic move at worst. I'm curious to know who it was and what their rationale was besides "punting" saves. Why punt saves when you have one of the top closers in the game with 4 1/2 months of the season left to play?
Dumb move if you ask me.

Definitely the right decision for now. I would just perhaps wonder if greg gets dropped by 25% or more of all leagues later in the year, wouldn't it make sense to add back to the fa pool at that point? You don't want to unbalance the contest either way I would think?

Why on earth would he get dropped by 25% of leagues unless he definitely loses his role or is out for the season and at that point, why would it matter anyways? No reason to punt saves when you have a guy like Holland and the numbers he can put up. Too many closers will come available in FAAB over the next several months. Never understood punting saves in a overall league to begin with, unless you are near the end of the season, let alone if you have Greg Holland and likely spent a very high round draft choice on him. Very strange.

I'm in this league and was SHOCKED to see Greg Holland dropped and was waiting for a comment; strange, this team also drafted Cecil and Giles but both have been dropped; I guess punting saves gives one a chance for the league but forget OA. I'm hurting in saves but won't drop my one viable closer (Britton) to go all SP. COZ said it best, 4.5 months left and you have no idea what will happen in the crazy game "As the Closers Change"
