Ramblings...

Matt Kemp has 187 at bats.
Troy Tulowitzki has 154 at bats.
Devin Mesoraco has, uh, it doesn't matter how many at bats. He is Justin Bieber. Not relevant.
Matt Kemp has one home run. Tulo has two. Mesoraco has squat. Because he can't squat.
Moral of the story and/or note to self:
Do not draft players with faulty hips or 'loose hips sink fantasy ships'.

I watched Clayton Kershaw pitch his good game the other night. It occurred to me in the fourth inning that even though he hadn't given up a hit, I had absolutely zero expectation of him pitching a no-hitter.
Even though we're smack dab in the middle of a pitcher dominated era, there is no dominating pitcher that we think can pitch a no-no anytime he takes the ball.
Felix, Scherzer, and Kershaw can be very good, but they don't give off the same vibe as a Nolan Ryan or Sandy Koufax.

I'm hooked on trying to catch every Kris Bryant/Anthony Rizzo at bat. Even playing them in slow motion. Especially Rizzo.
Rizzo is unlike most MLB hitters, he carries his hands very low. This is not a bad thing since this is where a hitter's hands end up anyway. While other hitters use their whole body to rock and get their hands in place, Rizzo sways little even with the leg kick. A thing of beauty really.

There is something every boxer has to go through in making up his mind in whether to stay a boxer.
He has to get hit in the face.
If any one of you has been hit in the face, you know that it is a sensation unlike any other. Boxers are trained or train themselves to instantly recover from such a blow.
Archie Bradley is not a boxer.

Lloyd McClendon is one of the last old school Managers. Still believing that 'my best hitter hits third'.
While other Managers are moving their best hitters to the second spot-
Trout, Votto, Donaldson, Altuve, Carpenter, etc have all thrived in the two-hole and it gets them up more and with possible runner(s) on base.
McClendon is hitting Robby Cano in the three-hole. When he looks at his lineup card he likes seeing-

Austin Jackson
Seth Smith
Robinson Cano
Nelson Cruz

instead of...

Austin Jackson
Robinson Cano
Nelson Cruz
Kyle Seager

Nothing against Seth Smith who has a career .265 average and never hit 18 homers in a season, but he belongs in the two-hole as Mike the Mouth in a zen class.

Speaking of Seth Smith, when a platoon player is sat by his Manager, why does RotoWorld say he is 'rested' ?
Is it politically incorrect to say 'benched' anymore?

Who is the best Closer in baseball?
Before this year, the answers were automatic. Kimbrel and Chapman.
I'm betting that if we had a draft today....umm a draft today...
That two things would be different concerning Closers.
First, that no Closer would be taken in the first five rounds.
Before, Kimbrel and Chapman with their dominating ways would always sneak into those top five rounds.
And second, the first Closer taken may be Drew Storen or Andrew Miller.
Closers will be even more of a cluster for drafters next year.

If we were to draft right now...umm draft right now...
Who would be your first pick?
In the past two years, the automatic choice has been Mike Trout.
Before breakout Bryce.
Who would you take first now?
Honestly, I don't know.
I still have the feeling that Harper will run into a wall or do something stupid to hurt himself.
But as a pure hitter, his power is more prodigious than that of any player.
If this season continues along the same way, the drafter getting the number one pick will have something that number one pickers from the last two years never had.
Torment.

I look at Marcus Semien and wonder who thought that kid could play shortstop? He is a second baseman, fellas!
And I know we don't know these players, but we still judge them from moves made on the field of play...
And I wonder what the total iq is on the Nationals left side of the infield.
YEscobar and Desmond, vaudevillian.
Maybe it's just me.

The Toronto Blue Jays proudly unveiled their new outfield this year.
Jose Bautista in right
Dalton Pompey in center
Michael Saunders in left.

That proud unveiling went over as well as Brett Favre's proud unveiling.
Now, the Blue Jays have Kevin Pillar covering all three outfield spots, while Danny Valencia and Chris Collabello catch anything hit with in 10 feet of them.
Easily the worst corner outfielders in baseball.
The Blue Jays are 'hiding' Valencia and Colabello in the outfield to keep them in their lineup.
It works for me.
I enjoy seeing those little bits of tire rubber jump up from balls skipping on hops till stopped by the fence.
A fence affectionately known as 'The Blue Jays second best outfielder'.
