Scoring Question

You would think that I would know the answer to this, but here it goes....

Pitcher A gets 2 quick outs before a batter reaches via error, thereby extending the inning.
Pitcher B relieves A and allows a 2 run HR.

That runner (via error) is an unearned run charged to pitcher A.
Is the batter that hit the ball an earned or unearned to pitcher B?

If A gave up the HR it would have been unearned.
It strikes me that, for the team, it should be unearned.
Given those 2 positions, is it unearned for pitcher B too?

Is it then correct that any damage that pitcher B does that inning is unearned?

Doesn't strike me as correct.

Anybody have a strong thought?

Editing for accuracy, Todd is correct in the next post. Had always thought that the earned runs had to net out to the team earned runs.

It's unearned for the team, but earned for the relief pitcher.

See this makes sense, but I just couldn't wrap my head around how the same run could be both earned and unearned.
