Half way through my rookie season

Post by Donacion » Mon Jul 06, 2015 2:14 pm

Some notes from my rookie season. Back in February I decided to dive into the NFBC. I picked the primetime because as a newcomer I felt it gave me the best opportunity to learn, cover up some mistakes, and compete. I've been asked a number times by friends if they should compete and I tell them absolutely. I let them know it's very competitive and make sure you understand the rules. Next year I'll be doing a main event and most likely an auction. I tell my friends who are thinking of joining me the following. 1. No trades I have to keep reminding myself I can't improve my team through a trade. I look at my team and I still find myself looking to see what I can trade for. 2. The draft is completely different in the NFBC as an example I got Marte in my friends league with the 45th pick enough said. I got great advice at the Las Vegas pre draft party if you like someone and their there draft them. Don't expect that player to be there when you pick again. 3. FAAB with this competition level is the worst. I've done a decent job but it sure is hard to watch Correa and Matz go by the wayside. I tell my friends have a plan for your FAAB money. I've been following my FAAB outline since the draft not the best not the worst . 4. If at all possible attend a live draft I'm fortunate to live in Las Vegas. 5. The competition. Is ferocious. If you like a tussle nothing like the NFBC.

Most of the veteran players do this stuff as second nature as a rookie until you experience the competition it would be easy to think it can't be that different from my home leagues. It is and that's the beauty of the format in my opinion.
I think I've recruited a couple of players for next year. Greg and Tom this has been more than I thought it would be my friends here me talk about NFBC all the time and hopefully I can sign up a few for you.

Great post Joe and thanks for the honest thoughts. You met a lot of great NFBC guys at the NCAA Viewing Party and then battled a lot of great owners in the Las Vegas Primetime league. I was so happy to see you sticking around even well after the draft to talk with some of the guys and to just soak in everything that was baseball that day. I can't remember too many first-time players who seemed to enjoy the live events more than you.

And congrats on winning that free Main Event entry in the Tuesday night Fanduel contest. That definitely will help things for 2016. Bring in more friends and bring them up to the pool table room for our Thursday night party!!! 8-) They'll love the NFBC as much as you have.

Can't wait and thanks again for the post.
