The best trade that was never made

In years past, the New York Mets were the laughing stock of baseball. Spending tons of money and putting "has been" stars on the field and, aside from 1969 and 1986, and a few other decent seasons, the Mets have been a joke to everyone.
No one has taken more abuse than I have. Everyone knows I have never been shy about my allegiance. I go into every season with hope and typically it ends in heartbreak.
This year is far from over, but this season has a storybook feel to it. Losing their captain to injury for most of the season and falling far behind in May and June, it appeared to be another hopeful season lost.
But this year, for the Mets, the season took a turn, in the strangest of circumstances. We all know what happened that day, but it wasn't just the fact that Wilmer Flores wasn't traded for Carlos Gomez, but the fact that Yoenes Cespedes was acquired the next day for a couple of minor leaguers. Since that crazy couple of days, the Mets have been the best team in baseball. Not only that, the once anemic offense, has become a hitting machine. They have hit 28 HRs in their last 11 games, and 49 runs in their last 4 games. Granted, the past 4 have been against Colorado and the Phillies, but Cespedes has brought a presence to the lineup that the Mets have not had since Darryl Strawberry and Mike Piazza. Moonshot homers and a swag, which has caused him problems with other teams, but seems to fit right into the New York scene.
Who knows, maybe they blow the lead in September again and its another disappointing ending. But, this year has a different feel to it. With WIL-MER FLOR-ES being chanted at Citizens Bank Park in Phily, Mets mania has hit the nation. And if they somehow make it to the playoffs, how exciting would that first series be against the Dodgers with Harvey vs Kershaw and deGrom vs Greinke?
But, even if disappointment is how this season ends for us Mets fans, there is Harvey, deGrom, Syndergaard, Matz, and an attitude now at Citi Field, that will make it fun to be a Mets fan for years to come.
