NFBC Post-Season Contest: 286 Teams

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Tue Sep 22, 2015 1:47 pm

Registration is now open for the debut NFBC Post-Season Contest, which has a $25,000 grand prize. This contest will consist of only 400 teams and will have over $46,000 in prizes. You can secure your team now and you won't need to set your Week 1 roster until Tuesday, Oct. 6th before the first MLB Wild Card Game.

Here's the quick details:

COST OF ENTRY: $150 per team. No limit on the number of teams you can have.

PRIZES: $25,000 to first place and we pay Top 15 teams, as seen below:

11. Prize Breakdown:
$150 National Fantasy Baseball Championship Hold ‘Em Post-Season Contest
1st Place - $25,000
2nd Place - $5,000
3rd Place - $4,000
4th Place - $3,000
5th Place - $2,000
6th Place - $1,500
7th Place - $1,000
8th Place - $900
9th Place - $800
10th Place - $750
11th Place - $700
12th Place - $650
13th Place - $600
14th Place - $550
15th Place - $500

SCORING: This is the first points-based scoring contest in the NFBC and the first one to use a progressive scoring setup. Players can accumulate points in the following ways:

NFBC Post-Season Hold 'Em Contest
Hitters
1B = 1 point
2B = 2 points
3B = 3 points
HR = 4 points
RBI = 1 point
R = 1 point
BB = 1 point
SB = 2 points
HBP = 1 point
Out (calculated as at bats - hits) = -.25pt

Pitchers:
W = 4 points
Save = 4 points
ER = -1 point
SO = 1 point
IP = 1 point; 0.34 point per 1/3rd inning

STARTING LINEUPS: A starting lineup will consist of 10 hitters and 6 pitchers, with the same positions and position eligibility of standard NFBC leagues except for one less catcher. Scoring is automatic, with each team’s 16 starting players receiving points throughout the playoffs.

PROGRESSIVE SCORING: Players that remain on your roster from Round 1 to Round 2 earn twice their point totals in Round 2 and if they are still on your roster in Round 3 they receive three times their point total for each result. Teams are allowed to fill out their Round 2 roster with new players to replace those who were eliminated in Round 1, but those players start at one time their scoring totals. If they advance to Round 3 and remain on your roster, they would get twice their scoring totals in Round 3. Replacements are also allowed in Round 3 for any players you may have lost in Round 2 and again they would start with just their scoring totals for that round.

ROSTER REQUIREMENTS: Owners are limited to no more than 3 players per team and no less than 1 player per team in Round 1. In Round 2 as teams are eliminated from the playoffs, owners can have as many as six players from each team on their Hold ’Em roster and no less than 1 player per team. In Round 3, rosters consist of 8 players from each of the remaining MLB teams. Transactions are unlimited each round.

HOLD 'EM MULTIPLIERS: Each Round during the contest, fantasy points are multiplied by the number of Rounds each player has been on your roster. So if you pick Mike Trout to be one of your starting OFs in Round 1 and the Angels advance to Round 2, you would earn his points from Round 1 and then two times his points in Round 2. If the Angels went on to the World Series and Trout remained on your Hold ‘Em roster, you’d receive three times his scoring total for all games in Round 3. All points are accumulated through each Round and the highest total wins the grand prize. In each Round, you can pick up a new player for that upcoming round, but the multiplier would begin at one because you just added him to your roster.

Pretty easy rules to understand. Now comes the hard part: Picking the right players on the right teams. Is this the year for Toronto? Is Kansas City still the team to beat in the American League? Are the Rangers the Cinderella story in the AL? Do the Dodgers have enough pitching to win it all? Or is St. Louis the team to beat in the NL? Heck, for that matter, is this the Year of Back To The Future for the Chicago Cubs?

Great, great storylines as we head into the post-season. Add to the fun of the post-season by competing for a great grand prize in a very easy format to manage. All you have to do is pick the right lineup before the Wild Card games, then update your roster before the AL and NL Championship Rounds, and then update them once more before the World Series. Easy enough and fun to watch the box scores for each game.

Not only that, but you can turn $150 into $25,000. Who wouldn't like that winning check to close out the baseball season?

SIGN UP NOW and look for rosters to load later this week. Thanks all and good luck.

MLB just announced that the American League will kick off the MLB postseason on Tuesday, Oct. 6th at 8:08 p.m. ET on ESPN, while the National League will start on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 8:08 p.m. ET.

That means our deadline to enter and set your Week 1 starting lineup in the debut NFBC Post-Season Contest is Tuesday just after 8 pm ET. Should be fun.

We have only 41 of 400 spots filled right now for the NFBC Post-Season Contest, but those owners will be able to check out the roster software this morning. All players who are on teams still in the playoff hunt are listed in the player pool right now, but once their teams are eliminated from the playoffs they will be removed. Note that as you try to set your rosters now. Should be fun.

Remember, you must have at least one player from each of the 10 playoff teams in Round 1 and no more than 3 players from any one team. There will be a lot of strategy involved in setting your Round 1 rosters. Here are the Rules on rosters:

3. Roster Requirements

Owners can create a roster with a maximum of 16 players for all rounds. The following are the roster requirements for each round:

Round 1: Wild Card and Divisional Games
Minimum of one player from each team
Maximum of three players from one team

Round 2: League Championship Series
Minimum of one player from each team
Maximum of six players from one team

Round 3: World Series
Eight players from each team

And here are the 16 roster spots throughout the contest:

4. Starting Lineup/Position Requirements

The starting lineup/positions will consist of 10 hitters and 6 pitchers, with the same positions and position eligibility of standard NFBC leagues, except for one less catcher. The starting lineup/positions for all rounds will consist of:

1 Catcher
1 First Baseman
1 Second Baseman
1 Shortstop
1 Third Baseman
1 Utility Hitter (any position or DH)
4 Outfielders
6 Pitchers (any combination of starters and relievers)

Note: All 16 players on a roster for a round are considered "active." There are no bench positions.

Good luck all and look for the software to be live shortly this morning. Enjoy.

.

Greg, do prize winners from NFBC regular season leagues have to option to use part (or all) of their prize money toward the entry fee for the post season contest? What's the status of being able to keep winnings on the site and use them for 2016?

At this point no, but we are still working on that. I should know more on Thursday.

Obviously it's our goal to have Player Accounts work just like they do on DFS sites, where you can stipulate how much you want to keep in your account and use for future contests. Telling us how much you want to withdraw and keep in there is key to giving you folks more freedom and allowing a better flow of prize money and entry fees. But it's something we need to finish and I hope we do soon.

Rosters are now available for the NFBC Post-Season Contest. It's pretty cool how you can set your lineups now and play around with it. Lovin' the look. Check it out and post comments or any feedback here. We're interested in your feedback. Thanks all.

Now when you sign up for a new NFBC Post-Season Contest team, you'll immediately have access to this Roster page and can set your First Round lineup. You obviously have until Tuesday 5 minutes before the first game to tinker with that lineup. Enjoy and good luck all.

Just a reminder that spots are still open for the debut NFBC Post-Season Contest. The NL matchups are set and now we just need to finalize the AL Wild Card. Which team will compete against the New York Yankees on Tuesday Night? We have three games to find out.

All players are still in the player pool for the Astros, Angels and Twins. When teams are eliminated those players will disappear from the player pool. Please set your lineup 5 minutes before the scheduled start time on Tuesday Night.

Good luck all. Please grab your teams over the weekend and check out the easy-to-use software for this contest. You need to fill 16 spots for Round 1, with at least one player from each team and no more than 3 players from any one team. Should be fun strategy. Enjoy and good luck.

Re: NFBC Post-Season Contest: 285 Spots Left

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Mon Oct 05, 2015 7:18 am

Okay, as you can see from the second post on this thread, we have only 115 teams signed up for the debut NFBC Post-Season Contest. And those owners all know that we haven't charged anyone for this contest yet. That's because we need to evaluate the signups through today and then make a call on this contest. That's just the hard, cold facts.

That being said, we have every intention of running this Post-Season Contest. It's important for us to test out the points-style scoring system in advance of the debut NFBC Cutline Championship. We also love this format and want to grow this post-season contest through the years. It's our own fault for not getting the rules defined sooner, the scoring system ironed out sooner, Registration live sooner and promotional banners on the site sooner. We will be more prepared in the future. But again, we REALLY want this format to succeed and grow as we think this is a very unique, very tough contest for our die-hard baseball audience and it extends our season right through the NFBC season and into the next drafting season.

I expected 400 teams for this contest, but it was a guess on my part. In football, we had 830 teams last year, so I felt there would be similar interest in baseball's post-season. It wouldn't be the first time I miscalculated, so here's what we're going to do:

We will give signups through today, again not charging anyone. Sign up now with no risk at all.

If demand isn't there for our current format, we'll have to shut down this contest. It's my intention that we'd create a new prize structure (maybe for only 200 teams) and contact everyone about the new prize structure. Nobody would be charged before agreeing to the prize structure, so you'd keep your teams intact. But anyone who didn't want to compete with the new prize structure could have those teams deleted. Entry remains at $150 either way.

Again, we hope to see enough interest today to keep this contest intact as is, but I'm not afraid to say I miscalculated and run this debut contest with a smaller field of die-hard players. Odds of winning would be much improved for those owners who like the format. But the only legal way to do that is to shut down this contest and start anew.

I know there are a lot of veteran owners who still plan to sign up for this one, but we have to make a decision today and we will. Losing money to debut a new product isn't the goal, but we like the format enough that we'll take a chance on it if needed. Let's see what today brings and then look for an update by end of business today. But keep setting your post-season lineups and look for an update soon. Thanks all and good luck.

I'm about to sign up -- personally I couldn't commit to this one until I finished out competing in my other NFBC leagues and knew that I'd have at least a little prep time to devote to this. Hopefully others were thinking the same and you'll have a significant bump in signups today.

I hope so too, Mark. I agree, it was tough to plan ahead with so much going on in the NFBC regular season and before any playoff teams were finalized, so hopefully today is a big day. Let's see, but I hear ya. Thanks for the signup just now.

Re: NFBC Post-Season Contest: 259 Spots Left

Let's keep the push coming for the NFBC Post-Season Contest. Now up to 141 teams. You can set your roster today with the new software as soon as you sign up. Only playoff teams are now in the player pool. Thanks all and good luck?

Who reaches the World Series this year? Are the Blue Jays the team to beat in the AL? Are the Cardinals the best team in the NL or do the Dodgers have too much pitching? Could the Cubs pull out the miracle? We'll find out shortly.

Good luck all.

I may not have read the rules correctly I wanted to clarify something. Round 1 has wild card and divisional series. If I add McCutcheon and they lose the play in game I have to wait until round 2 to replace. If so this adds an interesting bit of strategy. I'll be joining shortly just wanted clarification. Thank you

Correct. Everyone is going to lose two players at minimum after this week's Wild Card games. No fun, but the key is picking the right number of players on those teams because two of those teams get an extra game of numbers!! Love that small twist. Thanks Joe and good luck.

Never done one of these before and because I am obviously SO brilliant at this hobby, I am in.

Psst...don't tell my wife. She thinks fantasy baseball season is over for me!

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Okay, you boys are starting to make me feel a little better about our prize structure. Keep the signups coming. We've had 50+ in the last 6+ hours and if we keep that up over the next 24 hours we'll be home free!! :lol: I'd love to keep everything intact, but let's keep adding more teams!! This format is going to be a LOT of fun.

And it doesn't take much time to set your lineups. The software is pretty easy to use.

Speaking of the software, any feedback on the look and feel of the Post-Season Contest? We'd love to see your feedback. Thanks all.

One thing I thought would help is ability to click on a team to see only those players, but still easy enough to use and doesn't take long.

It looks like 100% payout would be at 313 teams, so if players like odds in their favor they should keep coming in ...

190% payout right now, good investment. :twisted:
