NFBC Milestone Reached Recently

I'm sure most of you on these boards probably missed it, but this type of thing catches my eye. A few days ago, one of our much beloved veteran sons of this great competition and brotherhood achieved what I think is a quite a milestone that bears recognition on here and acknowledgment by his fellow brethren of the NFBC.

Dan Kenyon, aka DOUGHBOYS, surpassed the 10,000 post mark on these message boards. Why is this significant? Where as there are other prolific posters and contributors to these boards, there have been none in my opinion since the NFBC was founded who have come close to what Dan has brought to the NFBC community. His sheer magnitude of positive, insightful, witty, entertaining, thought-provoking, and just overall fantastic contributions to these boards, be it as an advocate, opinion leader, poet, comic, mentor, or just as a passionate fan of not only this game we love to play so much, but the game of baseball as well, has been an added benefit on behalf of hundreds if not thousands of NFBC players throughout the years.

So Doughy, here's to you and the next 10,000. 8-) Thanks for your beloved Fantasy Camps, Daily Stuff, Rotosnips, and numerous columns on baseball, both real and fantasy. I too aspire to be like you someday, and have the ability and the luxury of sitting on my fat ass all day long in semi-retirement with an indifferent if not remarkably tolerant wife in a remote area of the country and just write stuff on here as much as you do. :P  You know that was just jealousy talking, because I wish I had that kinda life! ;)

Very well said, Mike. Dan has been a great friend and mentor to many of us, and is a true ambassador for the NFBC. His writings are one of the best reasons to visit these Boards, especially in the dog days of winter. I'm looking forward to the next 10,000 posts.

Dan, without doubt, is the nicest guy on these message boards (and in person)and possesses the most knowledge and insight to baseball than I have found anywhere. What a great guy and congrats on this milestone!

I don't post a lot anymore and fully realize I can get my man card suspended for writing this. I lost my dad at a young age. I realized early on that it was a lot to ask of any one person to fill that role. Hell in all honesty it was not huge shoes to fill. I decided to collectively pick a group of men and try to hodge podge it together. Couple of criteria jumped out. You had to have something about you that made you"special" you had to be right about the proper age, you needed to do things the right way in life, and most importantly I wanted you to be proud of me.

I am sharing this deeply personal thought in a public forum because Dan is one of those guys to me. We used to talk a lot. Life and probably him respecting my opinions about baseball diminishing just gets in the way.

A lot of you know he is funny and knows his baseball. Watch his family and how they respond to him. Spend more than a few minutes with him and the decency shines through. At first glance you see a regular guy with a regular life. At a closer look you see something we should all emulate to be. A respected husband, father, grandfather and friend.

I love you Dan and appreciate the impact you have had on my life. It is one of the many amazing stories that come out of this group of 1,000 guys who love baseball. Happy new year to all of you and I hope you all make one more good NFBC friend in 2016.

Kent, that had to be one of the best posts I've ever read on here. Kudos to you for sharing. Completely accurate and nailed it perfectly in your glowing admiration and respect for Dan. I feel the much the same way as you do. The NFBC and the world for that matter needs more Dan Kenyons in it. 8-) :D

I wish everybody could meet Mikey and Kent.
To know them, is to love them.
Both, considered terse on the Message Boards. Both showing their true colors as men with hearts of gold.

THIS, this is the best reason to attend 'Live Events'.
You'll be lucky enough to meet people like these and a whole lot more.
If you have never been to a live event, GO TO LAS VEGAS, or New York, or Chicago.
There are other folks just like you. Fellas that were ingrained with the baseball gene.
Fellas that WON'T be bored as you talk endlessly about fantasy players.
The first time I walked into that huge drafting room in Las Vegas, my wife was on my arm.
It was an hour before draft time. There were clusters of folks all talking about baseball and fantasy baseball.
My wife turned to me and said, "Omigod, there all just like you!!"
She was right and I was in Heaven.

The added benefit, though, was something unforeseen.
I have never met a fellow at a live event that I have not liked!
Never!
And I am lucky enough to have met a lot of NFBC folks!
When reading stuff from folks like Kent or Mikey, or others on the Message Boards. Opinions are formed, Based only on those posts.
To actually meet Kent and Mikey is a whole new ball game.
Less than five minutes after meeting them, the Message Boards persona's falls away and the realization strikes that these are good, good men
Good men I was lucky enough to meet.

For you folks that are sitting on the fence about going to a live event, GO!
Not only will you meet and talk with a lot of folks that have that spirit of baseball within you, you will also meet quality folks like Kent and Mikey, and so many other folks who become life-long friends.

P.S.
I first drafted in 2005.
In 2005, most folks communicating with me were relatives or co-workers.
I love my relatives and I will talk about subjects near to them.
Co-workers want to talk about work or go out drinking to forget work.
Neither group caring about baseball.

Since that first draft in 2005, a strange metemorphis has occurred.
Now, most of my calls ARE baseball.
Kelly Uganski, a fellow I have yet to meet in person, and I talked on the phone for most of a day about baseball.
Both of us, wondering where the time went when finished.
Roger Martin and I now talk almost every day about baseball.
Drawn closer when during a draft, his daughter had to have life threatening brain surgery. Twice!
Since then, while Roger and I talk on the phone, I can sometimes hear Mia, his daughter playing and laughing.
Makes me smile every time.
The 10,000 posts are miniscule compared to meeting and knowing all you great people.
I'm the lucky one.
