Non-residents winnings now taxed at 30% ?

Post by Deadheadz » Tue Jan 05, 2016 7:49 pm

Greg,

Today I got an email from RTS stating that to comply with IRS tax code they will now be withholding 30% of all winnings from non-residents who win a prize in their leagues.

Is this only their DFS games or does it apply to all fantasy games on all sites including NFBC?

Apparently there's paperwork which we can file after the fact to hopefully recover the money but only "if you qualify".

I'm sure your other Canadian (as well as those in other countries) players would like to know more about this as it seems like either a new interpretation of the tax code or is an altogether new addition to the code.

Wow!!!
Extreme bad news, it's like getting kicked in the balls twice...paying 1.40 per the US dollar for teams and then getting taxed 1.30 if any winnings...that´s the end of me if true...

I can't speak for other companies, but as NFBC owners know we do not withhold any winnings from anyone in our contests. Full prizes are paid by us. Canadians aren't required to fill out W9s. Nothing has changed here. Good luck with the other contests.
