Why is it that you see a "anonymous" name in leagues sign ups? Can someone educate me here as to why this is? Im sure there is a reasonable explanation but it seems a bit odd to me. Additionally, I and I'm sure others watch to see who joins what leagues for all different kinds of reasons. We should all be able to see who we are competing with.......Whats the secret????

The reason given is that some players do not want their names mentioned in a fantasy sports forum.
Preferring that their boss or spouse not 'stumble' across it.

Most however, think of this as an attempt by some people to hide 'their players' in DC drafts, so as not to expose them to other drafters for larger drafts later.

Primarily this is allowed (although I'm not for it either) because there are a few persons who compete in this competition who suffer from paranoia manifesting itself in the form of an identity complex which compels them to believe that if they were to post their true names upon entering a league, that others would choose to join these leagues to learn about their draft picks or strategies. Then in turn, these "lesser" players would want to emulate the supposedly "greater" anonymous players to gain a competitive advantage over them by taking their players in the higher stakes drafts or auctions. All of this of course stems form the anonymous players' obsessive desire to feed their fragile egos and their delusions of grandeur.

I cringe whenever I see an "Anonymous" show up in a league I've signed up for. The greater sin, though, is NFBC listing a pseudonym instead of the player's real name, which has happened twice in the few leagues I've played. I don't understand why Greg and Tom go along with this, as it really gives their customer the impression that they're condoning a fraud.

Easy solution. Don't list/post participants' names until after the season starts.

If we're all gonna start using aliases, I call dibs on Joe Hardnutz.

I dont understand the reasoning for it either. But, of course, you can choose to play FanDuel where you know everyone you are playing against..

Greg and Tom.....I ask that this be changed. MTM says it quite well......Maybe a little brash but straight forward and makes a lot of sense!!!! Within a site such as this with competition at the highest level and significant financial implications, I find there to be no "valid" reason as to why someone would not want there name to be known....or why I should not be able to know who I am competing with. Why would someone not want us to know there name (seems a little fishy). Im trying to find a reason as to why this would be allowed and I can't.........I have done some research and it appears that there are very very few occurrences where this is allowed, less than 1%. Im proposing a rule change and this to not be allowed. This is such a fantastic format and site in so many regards and IMO everything should be done to keep it as such, this to me seems to be such an easy fix. If I am missing something here please share.....Thank you for your consideration.

I did a little research and as you can see below, this topic has been brought up a few times. At one point in time, I believe back a few years ago, Greg made a ruling that there would be no anonymous sign ups after February 15th. But then again, that was a few years ago.

I personally dont see the big deal. What would you gain if you knew the person's name? Not that I would ever do it, but I dont think it really matters. But, I suppose it can be looked at again.

It hasn't been a big deal.
When 'anonymous' becomes beligerant or takes 8 hours, then it'll be a problem.
I like looking at the list of names because I know of some slow drafters and I'd rather avoid them.
I don't mind joining drafts with Mark, er, I mean 'anonymous'.

Yes, I recall these "conversations", and if this is what Greg said, then these anonymous entries should be eliminated. This unfair exception should not be being made for a handful of participants at most, and the reasons for not allowing anonymous entries to these leagues, far outweigh the arguments for allowing them.

And just like the guy who started this thread said, I know what I'm talking about and people should listen to me all the damn time anyway and things would be a lot better around here.

Thank you all for your responses. I didn't realize this had been addressed in years past. Im wondering now if there is a consistency issue stemming from what was agreed on in years past? Personally, and for my own reasons, I want to know who I am competing with / against. If I would have seen an 'anonymous' in the league I would have not joined. It popped up after I joined, and if this particular 'Anonymous' is for business reasons then it should be stated as such, I doubt it though........I personally don't get good vibes. Additionally, it appeared in the past that it was agreed upon that after the league was started that we would know all participants names? I don't see that on the owners list either.......I apologize for being a little skeptical here but this doesn't smell right......State your name and if you have to have an 'alias" for business purposes then state that....... Sure seems to be an easy fix... Even if one person questions the fairness issue that to me would be enough to eliminate the " anonymous" or state the specific reason as to why you need to be anonymous.........

I've noticed this as a debated issue for several years now. I don't have a really passionate opinion one way or the other.

For those who state something along the lines of 'I want to know who I'm competing against' - what value or benefit is there for you to know the name of the person making the picks? Does it effect your draft strategy in any way to know that 'Anonymous' is actually Donald Trump or whoever?

I would think that if it is going to be allowed, anyone should have the option of showing as 'anonymous' if they want to for any reason. If you are going to allow it for some, it should be allowed for all. It should not be an exception, on special approval thing IMO. Close it, or open it all the way up.

There are many owners who would kill for the playbook of any of the nfbc experts. I say screw the coattail riders. Let them do their own work and continue to crash and burn

We all like drafting with like minded folks right. Put all the anonymous people in one league. Just kidding. But what I find funny is that I draft year after year with the same anonymous person. His real name comes up when the competition begins. Then the following year, he uses the same e-mail address so many people know the identity. But I wouldn't disclose it the next year.

So thats the answer huh...worried about it so go away and join another site/league? interesting point.....so much for us lowly folk.....good to know.....this is getting more fishy....all or nothing....we are all anonymous or no one is....Ill wait to see if his name pops up when the league starts...Im guessing it won't......Its simple, I'm not leaving the league,i didn't bow out because of it, I will compete against anybody......its a valid question, one that has been addressed for years and the lack of consistency and follow through when dealing with it is simply interesting.......again, when dealing with competition in the industry at the highest level and for the financial implications you would figure there would be complete transparency...guess not....oh well, it is what it is and happy drafting.......
