What Is KDS And How Does It Work?

This is just a reminder to everyone in the NFBC that we do allow you to give us your favored draft preferences in all NFBC drafts except the NFBC Cutline Championship. In that 10-team format, draft spots are just randomly drawn by the computer as soon as the league fills.
But in all of our 12-team and 15-team draft formats, we allow you to set your draft preferences before slots are picked. We call this the Kentucky Derby System (KDS) because in the past the Kentucky Derby would draw a horse's name and the trainer could then pick the slot he'd want his horse in the gate. Not every horse liked the rail or the middle or the outside, so a trainer had their choice if picked early. We allow the same type of setup in the NFBC as not everyone wants the highest available pick. Make sense?
After you sign up for a team you can click on your team link under My Teams and the first page will have the list where you can Edit Preferences. They default to 1-15 or 1-12, but you can change them by clicking on the Edit Preferences link. Once you do that you can easily move any of the jerseys to the left or right, putting your favored draft spot to the left and least favored draft spot to the right. Do this for all 12 or 15 spots and then click on the Submit button. It's as easy as that.
The computer then randomly picks the order and then goes through each owners' KDS listings and gives them the highest available spot at that time. Not everyone gets their highest preferred draft spot as someone has to be randomly chosen last by the computer in every league. But hopefully enough people get moved up to an area of the draft that they want and hopefully a handful or so owners get one of their top draft preferences. It's just our way of helping you BEFORE the draft.
Again, if you don't care where you draft then just leave your KDS alone and you'll get the highest possible draft spot at the time you are randomly chosen. There is no downside to NOT setting your KDS. But if you plan your draft strategy in advance, you may just like a spot outside of the very top. Just a thought.
Anyway, I'll use this thread from time to time to show you examples of KDS and how it works. Good luck all and enjoy.
