Re: the Mia draft year 4
Great stuff!!
My favorite part.....
Mia - "Number 9 is Roger Martin"
Rog - "AKA?"
Mia - "Daddy!"
Thanks Mia (especially for not giving, and therefore wasting, the number 1 pick to MtM again ) and thanks Rog for posting this video every year.
PS.... Soooo glad you found your stuffed animals last year Mia and great to see you smiling again!

Thanks Mia for another wonderfully cute job well done!! Honored to continue to be a part of the best league in NFBC!!
Re: the Mia draft year 4
Mia Mia Mia....awesome job! Pick 6 is great. My top choice was "anyone other than Mikey for pick 1". It's a yearly tradition at our house to gather around the computer and watch the best you tube video ever!
Re: the Mia draft year 4
Great job again, Mia. I think your dad and I have the same draft numbers as last year, when we did not do so well. But we'll try to do better this season!

I've had some folks email and ask me the significance of the Mia League.
A few years ago, a bunch of us entered a DC Draft. 'A bunch of us' meaning we hardly 'knew' each other at all, even in NFBC circles. Sure, I was still the bigmouth on the Message Boards, but besides that, complete strangers.

The 15 of us decided to do what was then called a 'Fast/Slow Draft'.
Everything was going as planned until Roger e-mailed me that he was taking his little girl to the hospital.
It began a 48 hour period where the Martin's called that hopital home.
And unbeknownst to them, there were 14 drafters who, in spirit, would also call that hospital home.
Roger would ask to be passed in the draft. The response, "How's Mia?"
It turned out that Mia needed a second surgery after complications arose.
The draft may have lasted as long as a normal slow draft.
I don't remember and really, nobody cared.
Not one person had 'zzzzz' or a '"C'mon, let's get rolling'".
The Father in all of us was with that little girl in Florida.
Some, offered to donate any winnings and send gifts to the Martin Family.
Mia is fine now, as you can see from her video.
All of us in that original draft and those since, have felt something more than just the competitive spirit in competing against each other.
Since, we all share a common bond in Mia. Most of us, Fathers who couldn't imagine what the Martin's were going through at that time.
And ever since, Mia rewards us by picking our names to draft.
To some, a little girl reading names.
To us in the Mia League, she is OUR little girl reading those names.
It is 'Must See Video', shared with our families.
And it let's us know that our little girl is healthy and doing well.

Grateful to be allowed to fill in for Wayne this year. Thanks Mia!

This is awesome. I'm loving it and I'm not even in the league. I'm sure you will never need a replacement owner, but I would be happy to play if you ever need one!

Re: the Mia draft year 4
Great stuff as always, Dough. What made that draft so unique as well was how early after the season we started it. We were drafting at the end of October. The reason I'll never forget this was Super Storm Sandy hit us out here in NJ and the vicinity right after we started. Many of us in it were without power and dealing with some severe personal circumstances and challenges during this draft at the same time Rog was going through his ordeal with Mia (I actually awoke one morning to my house being filled with smoke from a fire that had started during the night in the wall due to an ember that had fallen into a crack behind the firebox of the fireplace that was I keeping going non-stop after the storm hit to keep my kids warm). I remember standing in my freezing cold kitchen and making picks on my phone by candle light without power, heat, or gas with the generator running on my porch just to keep a few things charged and the refrigerator running. During this time I also remember texting back and forth with Roger getting to know him and his family, and especially his brave little girl, Mia. I was just trying to help coach him through it all each day and to send him positive energy, thoughts, and words of inspiration whenever I could. I just knew with complete certainty for some reason that Mia was going to be fine and pull through, and thankfully she did with flying colors and we are able to celebrate her each year since then with this draft in her honor.DOUGHBOYS wrote:I've had some folks email and ask me the significance of the Mia League.

Looking forward to it as always, Mia, and thanks for another great pick for Uncle MTM this year. And as always, any money I win in this league is coming your way for your mom and dad to use towards college, your first car, your sweet sixteen party, or whatever else makes you happy. Can't wait to meet you in person someday, and look forward to talking to you again on the phone someday soon.

Re: the Mia draft year 4
Just a heads up to all of the owners in the Mia League that Tom and I will sign everyone up as soon as this next NFBC $150 DC sells out. Look for your signups and then set your KDS preferences the way Dan has informed you. This league will start tomorrow at 1 pm ET as expected and as Mia selected the draft order.
Thanks all and good luck. And THANKS MIA!!!
