The Dream...

All of this Shandler bashing has made me think...

We all play the games that ESPN, Yahoo, etc. has to offer. We play in leagues where half of the managers are dead by midseason, and then half of the remaining half are gone by August... Most of the time, you are lucky to have three or four managers left at the end of the season. And, if you are not some place where you can get a league together among your friends, then who do you get to brag to in the end... Nobody, 'cause the other two or three managers don't care. They have 10 other leagues where they might have won.

And when the next season comes, what do we do? We hope that Todd Zola or Ron Shandler or Greg Ambrosius or some ESPN announcer will call us at home and say, "My God, we watched your league last year and you were phenomenal! We want you to play in a league with us professional/expert players! We will even put your name in a magazine... We will do a week long miniseries about you and your fantasy league strategies. You are the man!" I don't know about you guys, but for three years it never happened to me... It took the fourth year for something remotely close to it to occur. That was when I was doing a search and come across the NFBC. All I can say is, "Greg, this is a dream come true." Well, for me anyway if not for anyone else.

For once, I get to play in a league with some names in it (and even some faces to go with those names). I get to play against some guys who claim to know all. I get to play against some guys who obviously know a lot. I get to play against some dead money. The point is I get to play against a bunch of guys with the bollas to put the money where their pride and enthusiasm is. Now the dream is bigger than it ever was before... I want to be the greatest fantasy league baseball player ever, and be recognized for it. I want someone (hopefully my wife when she sees that $100K check ;) )to realize that the hours and days I spend on this computer analyzing stats and reading articles and setting, then resetting, my lineup 74 times a day is something more than just a hobby... It is a passion! I want to be in the Fantasy League Hall of Fame... And I want to have records that people will be trying to break once I am long gone...

The dream is finally becoming reality. Good luck to everyone now that the season is finally beginning to roll. And I hope that all of your dreams are coming true also, win or lose.

I'm ready to run through a brick wall. Sounds just like me.
