Dealing With Tied FAAB Bids In Week 1

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Mon Apr 11, 2016 1:12 pm

There is some confusion involving tied FAAB bids this past weekend and after some research we now know what happened. Here's the breakdown:

** In past years when there was only one Sunday game, we ran that night as a separate week. The one game would be Period 1 and any tied FAAB bids were determined by giving the lowest drafted team the winning bid since there weren't any standings accumulated yet. Then in the next weekend -- Period 2 -- we used standings as of Saturday to determine all tied bids with the team lower in the standings getting the winning bid. This is how it goes every week after the first week.

** This year we had to change the scoring period late in the off-season to deal with MLB's decision to have three games on Sunday. We determined that it made sense to make Period 1 the full eight days of games, going from Sunday to Sunday. Since there were no standings in a period before this weekend, the program determined all tied bids according to the lowest team in the draft. After this weekend, it will have standings to determine all tied bids. What it will do is look at the Saturday standings and give the lowest ranked team at that time in the league standings the winning bid if tied with another team.

We apologize for any confusion. If MLB continues to run multiple games on that opening Sunday, we will have to decide if we want to make that Sunday its own scoring period or keep it like it was this year with an 8-day scoring period from Sunday to Sunday. I actually like this way better, but then we'll have to better communicate how tied bids are run that first weekend of the season. We'll definitely do that.

Per our rules: Any tied bids during the first FAAB period will be given to the team with the lowest draft order from Draft Day, whether there were a few games played before then or not.

Again, sorry for any confusion this weekend. Going forward any tied bid goes to the lowest team in the league standings among those tied for that player. Good luck all.
