April 18th Gameday Thread
What could ruin a perfectly good Monday of baseball? Tax day! Remember to get your lineups and returns in today.
Re: April 18th Gameday Thread
Imagine that....a Major League manager actually bringing in his best "closer" in the middle of an inning to put out a fire. John Farrell brought in Kimbrel in the 8th with the basese loaded instead of a "clean" inning to "save" the game. I long for when your best relievers like Bruce Sutter, Rollie Fingers, & Goose Gossage, et al were brought in in the middle of the inning in jam situations regardless of the inning and the Rolaids Relief Award was called the Fireman of the Year and the award was a Fireman's Helmet. It's time relievers are used as "firemen" instead of designated-at-the-start-of-an-inning, one-inning specialists.

Days were that good relievers relished coming in with those situations.
Now, the normal routine is to come in at the top of an inning.
Either way, it did not go well for Kimbrel or the Red Sox.

I have Miller and Betances on my main event team lineup decision I'm making. Combined they have 11 innings pitched and 27 K's. I was thinking of replacing one with a 2 start pitcher in hopes of grabbing a win or 2. I decided to pass on the temptation my choice for 2 starts is Peavy at home take the Miller/Betances numbers and see if a lucky win materializes. Anyone else got an interesting pitching decision they are thinking about

Re: April 18th Gameday Thread
I am debating de Grom and have less than an hour to make my decision. The prospect of a possible weekend start at Atlanta is quite appealing, but I really do not want to take a zero from one of my pitching slots if they push him to Monday or Tuesday. The choice probably comes down to de Grom or Hendricks starting at St. Louis (or benching one of my closers). Leaning towards keeping de Grom benched (which almost guarantees that he throws a gem this weekend). Oh, well. No one ever said it would be easy.Donacion wrote:I have Miller and Betances on my main event team lineup decision I'm making. Combined they have 11 innings pitched and 27 K's. Am also debating for a different team starting Buxton or Oswaldo Arcia. I only picked Buxton on one team and my patience already is waning. Arcia looked good this weekend and I was able to pick him up at a low price in FAAB. Arcia looks to be the better hitter right now, but this team has plenty of power and probably is a little weak on speed. Decisions, decisions. Leaning slightly toward giving Buxton between now and Thursday to convince me not to bench his ass for the foreseeable future.

As a Huge St. Louis Cardinals fan I sincerely hope we bash the Cubs heads in tonight. Especially since Lackey is on the mound. However Mike Leake is pitching so...
Re: April 18th Gameday Thread
It will be interesting to see and this is super rare in STL but I think Heyward might get booed. More because of the negative things he said about our roster than the fact he signed in CHI.

Before the season, I thought anybody in that outfield could as easily wind up in the ASG as in Rochester. Combined K rate of 40% currently.Bronx Yankees wrote:Am also debating for a different team starting Buxton or Oswaldo Arcia. I only picked Buxton on one team and my patience already is waning. Re: April 18th Gameday Thread
I agree. I own both of them on only one team (out of 14). Needed speed in a draft and decided to gamble in the middle rounds on Buxton. While I was not expecting a Trout-like jump in performance from Buxton after his first taste of the majors last year, given his pedigree I was expecting a little more development than what I've seen so far. Toying with sitting him until there is noticeable improvement, although I still could use some SBs and have that niggling suspicion that Buxton will steal a ton of bags as soon as I bench him. Arcia was a speculation play. I've owned him for less than 24 hours. Wanted an OF, saw him hit well this weekend as the Twins tasted victory for the first time, and bid a few bucks speculating he'd get more starts in the middle of the order. He'll probably go off tonight as I've kept Buxton in for one more series. The only thing I'm confident in is that the benched player will outperform whoever I start.Yah Mule wrote:Before the season, I thought anybody in that outfield could as easily wind up in the ASG as in Rochester. I know the Cards are doomed in this game because Jake Westbrook, er Joe Kelly er Mike Leake is on the mound and the Cubs will crush him but man do I hope we hit Lackey hard at some point.

Great - I got the Storen save also - gained two points as saves are tightly bunched in the middlebrian4state wrote:Good to see I'll get at least 1 save out of Storen
Bad news was it also cost me three points in ERA/WHIP

What did you decide Mike on the deGrom situation? Looks like he is indeed making that appealing start. Now we just need the gem part and you can say you called it!Bronx Yankees wrote:I am debating de Grom and have less than an hour to make my decision.
