Feel bad for Hernandez owners

Post by Driver Love » Thu May 19, 2016 12:31 pm

David Hernandez was a speculative save target later in drafts this year. He was the guy most expected to have the role to kick off the season. He had a bad game and blew a save in game one. He (shockingly) was immediately yanked from the job that went to journeyman Jeanmar Gomez. He has really pitched well since then. Think about how valuable Hernandez would have been had his manager not yanked him from that job over one poor outing? With the number of games the Phillies have won close he would be rewarding fantasy owners handsomely.

Yes, I was a Hernandez owner. Rough year.

I lost out on Giles at the beginning of the year after drafting him as my primary closer and put in a $102 bid for Jeanmar that first week, lost him by about $25. Can't explain how pissed I am for missing him now.

Bsj,

That sucks. I put in a smaller bid on Gomez because I had Hernandez and felt his stuff was better suited to close. I thought Gomez would get blasted with this pedestrian junk he throws. Credit to him for getting the job done. Just real bad luck for Hernandez owners who drafted the guy.. he loses his job over one bad opening day outing... He pitches extremely well after that and his team repeatedly wins close games with save opportunities. Downer.

And while Hernandez continues to pitch well, he's now behind Hector Neris as the next in line. Gomez was given the opportunity and seized it.

Philly,

Absolutely true. That is why I released him. Just imagine how things could be different if Hernandez did not lose his role/job over that one bag game in the first game of the season. As for me, I would not be making desperation bids on guys like Cingrani and Dyson if Hernandez had 14 saves now lol
