The regular season ends in the NFBC Cutline Championship at the All-Star break, which means that for half of the competitors the season is complete. However, we have a fun playoff setup for 9+ weeks for those who finish in the top half of their leagues. Here's a look at the playoff format and one clarification:
* We have stated the playoffs is 9 weeks consisting of three, 3-week sessions. However, the first round of the playoffs actually has four scoring periods. The Friday-Sunday games on July 15-17 are a separate scoring period followed by three more full weeks to conclude Round 1 of the Championship Round and Wild Card Round. So that First Round will have four scoring periods with the first round consisting of just three days.
Here's the rest of the rules:
4. Playoffs
The top two teams in each league will advance to the Championship Tier (with the top scoring team in each league winning $250), while the third place, fourth place and fifth place teams in each league go into the Wild Card Tier. All teams tied for fifth place in their respective leagues will advance to the Wild Card Tier.
All other teams are eliminated from postseason action. The Playoffs will consist of 3 rounds and each round will be 3 weeks in duration.
Round 1 (July 15 through Aug. 7) – Each advancing team from the regular season will have their Round 1 total calculated by adding their weekly average point total from the season to their team totals from July 15 to Aug. 7. The Top 95 teams in the Championship Tier will advance to Round 2 in the Championship Tier. All other teams move into the Wild Card Tier. The top 5 teams from the Wild Card Tier move into the Championship Tier for Round 2, while the next 95 Wild Card teams also advance to Round 2 in the Wild Card Tier. All other teams in the Wild Card Tier are eliminated from the contest.
Round 2 (Aug. 8 through Aug. 28) – The Top 95 teams from Round 1 of the Championship Tier plus the top 5 Wild Card teams will advance to Round 2 in the Championship Tier, while the remaining teams from the Round 1 Championship Tier and the remaining Top 95 Wild Card teams will compete in Round 2 in the Wild Card Tier. Each team's Round 2 total is calculated by adding 25% of their Round 1 Total Score, to their team totals from Aug. 8 to Aug. 28. The Top 18 teams in the Championship Tier will advance to Round 3 in the Championship Tier, while all other teams in the Championship Tier will move into the Wild Card Tier. The Top 2 Wild Card teams will move up to the Championship Tier for the next round, putting 20 teams in the Championship Tier for Round 3. The Top 20 teams after removing the Top 2 teams in the Wild Card Tier move on to Round 3 in the Wild Card Tier. All other Wild Card teams are eliminated.
Round 3 (Aug. 29 through Sept. 18) – The 20 teams left in the Championship Tier will compete for the 20 Championship Tier prizes. Each team's Round 3 total is calculated by adding 25% of their Round 2 Total Score to their team totals from Aug. 29 to Sept. 18. The team with the most points in the Championship Tier wins the $40,000 grand prize. The same scoring formula is used for the Wild Card Tier, which has prizes for the Top 5 highest scoring teams in Round 3.
