Just Some Thoughts.....

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Wed Jul 20, 2016 3:18 pm

Jose Altuve has been one of fantasy's best hitters all year.
But especially lately.
Since June 1, Altuve has more hits than anybody in baseball and has hit .390
Think about that for a second.
Hottest hitter in baseball and hitting .390 over the the last seven weeks.
That should sum up the chances of ever seeing another .400 hitter.

I love the Draft Championships. I really do.
Nothing has changed with these DC's, but something has changed in me.
I loved the grind of making out lineups every week.
Loved to pick which pitchers would serve me best.
Now, I'd just as soon let those lineups fall to the hands of best play in my computer.
I'm not alone.
As we get older, the grind of everyday living prohibits us from liking the grind of making these lineups.
It becomes more of a chore than something looked forward to.
I also think it would be beneficial for the NFBC in that more time may mean more teams for some.
Lineup changes and FAAB will always be a part of the Main Event makeup.
The less assignments and deadlines for owners in other leagues, the better.

Speaking of best play by computer.
In cutline, but do believe the scoring is a little bizarre in a way, and there is probably little that can be done about it.
Let's say a team selected three catchers for cutline.
Posey
Gomes
Mesoraco
In all leagues (before Gomes injury), the lineup would include Posey and Gomes since Mesoraco is done for the year.
For Cutline, Mesoraco is the preferred catcher (by computer standards) since Gomes received minus points in so many weeks.
I find it hard to swallow that a disabled player is used over a healthy body.
Maybe that is just a thing that goes with computer best play, but it doesn't feel right to me.

Billy Burns was sent down to the minors the other day by Oakland.
He was hitting .234 with 15 extra base hits and 14 stolen bases.
Jason Heyward is hitting .234, with 20 extra base hits and eight stolen bases.
Just sayin'.

What do we do with Daniel Murphy next drafting season?
All he has done is hit.
18 homers, .352
Still, we've seen him for a long time.
And he hasn't been that good.
Did a light go on during the playoffs and stay on throughout this year?
Will it continue next year?
It'll be intriuging to see where he will be taken in drafts.

If the Cubs and Indians get Chapman and Miller, they have to be the odds-on favs for the World Series.
Rondon and Allen owners would be chaffed.
Betances owners, happy.

I heard the word 'value' 32 times during a fantasy football half hour talk show hour.
Yep, I counted.
This included commercials.
Ironic in that one of the commercials was for a presidential candidate.
The word, never used.
No value pick there, eh?

Edit-
One more thing...
To the conspiracy theorists who say the ball is tighter or juiced over previous years...
Maybe not.
The Commisioner wanted bat companies to make their bats out of stronger stuff.
And they have.
There are less shards of bat going to infielders this year.
The effects may go into the ball propelled harder as well.
For now, the apple blamed, not the arrow.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

Perhaps next season the tail will wag the dog for some people in traditional lges ... as they see in bright red negative color the impact a shitty catcher has on their team maybe some will just keep the Mesoracos in there for their 5x5's.

Given your "value" affliction be thankful you don't have cnbc or bloomberg running 8 hours a day in the background! I couldn't begin to count. :P

Yes, Murph and Kevin Long said as much last fall.
