Yer not going to get Trea Turner at 23 so if you really want him and you're in the 8 slot, this is what you gotta do.

First thing that jumped out at me was the "fast" start by the team in the third slot: Jose Altuve, Jonathan Villar and Billy Hamilton. You can makeup deficits in other categories - and this owner starts doing so in Rounds 4-6 - but there probably is very little margin for error.

That was my initial reaction as well but easy to forget that Altuve + Villar combined for 43 HR. Amazing numbers for both guys. But...that was last year. Ah, what to do with Billy Hamilton this year. He has the potential to be an edge in a category like no other. I passed on him on the 3/4 turn in the premature league and am regretting doing such. He made it all the way to 5.03 and interestingly enough he landed on a team that started out Altuve / Villar. Apparently those three are meant to be drafted together this year!

We're on the same wavelength. Villar still may run wild, but I'm not sure I'm buying the increase in power. Same with Altuve, really, although he's a first rounder even with fewer HR. Will he continue to steal bags if he's hitting third? (Same question can be posed for Betts.) Hamilton is an enigma. I saw some real improvements last year. If he's leading-off for the Reds for 150 games, he could steal 100 bags. But, can he stay healthy stealing bases, diving back into first base constantly, and diving all over the OF? Given declines in SBs, he could go in the third round and earn a profit. I struggle with guys like Hamilton. They give you a huge edge in SBs, but only if you use subsequent picks to fill the other four hitting categories. If you keep drafting for speed, isn't it a waste to use a high pick on a one trick pony like Hamilton? However, in case he gets hurt or under-performs, you kind of want to draft more speed just in case, which seems self-defeating in a way (at least to me). Definitely need to do some more thinking between now and March about whether these guys are worth the price they likely will go for this season.

The Story of Tonight is whether or not Hamilton can be Your Right Hand Man as a one category player. Will he leave you Helpless, or Satisfied? You'll have to Wait For It to see if you can Stay Alive long enough to see if That Would Be Enough. Oh my Billy, History Has Its Eyes on You as we all want to know What Comes Next. Will you be a Non-Stop terror, leaving other owners to wonder What I'd Miss, or will you Take A Break and Say No To This basestealing thing? Will this be One Last Time to win a fantasy title? I Know Him, and I think We Know that he is going to Blow Us All Away even if the Reds know It's Quiet Uptown.

Your Obedient Servant,

While reserving the right to change my mind, I don't think Porcello belongs in the first six rounds. I passed on him eight times in my first DC and he went to someone else at 9.1, which I thought was very reasonable. I could see him going earlier than that in other drafts, but, speaking only for myself, I don't see him as a Top 90 pick. That being said, I'm kind of biased against AL East starters. If they have truly great stuff (e.g., Pedro Martinez), that's one thing. Porcello had a great year after a truly horrible year. I guess I have to see him do it again before I'm a real believer. Maybe I'm wrong on him.

Only 10 SPs in the first 50 picks in this last DC. Last year you saw 17 SPs in the first 50 picks. Big change in one year.

True. But closers seem to be holding their value. A year ago 7 RP in the top 90. This year around 10.
