INDIVIDUAL DRAFT CLOCKS

Under a prior thread about next year's planned improvements, Greg mentioned that we should expect to see individual (24 hour?) draft clocks in the Draft Champions leagues. This is the best idea I've heard yet. This will be the best thing to happen to these leagues since they started. I'm tired of being held hostage every draft by one, two, or more inconsiderate idiots. I believe this will result in more people doing more leagues and the NFBC making more money, and all of us maximizing our draft experiences.
There was also a suggestion of turning off the clock for a few hours every night. I'm not opposed to this, but let's not get carried away with the hours. Midnight to four am should suffice. But if you do this, it can't just be based on EST. How about drafts that stop based on PST also? This would further the speed of the drafts quite a bit in my opinion. Anyway, I'm thrilled at this proposed change and just want to say an early "Thank You!"

It almost guarantees that a Draft Championship League will finish within two weeks. Something that would be enjoyed by most, including me.
However, I do believe that DC drafters should be offered a choice of the old and new clocks if that is possible.
There are many drafters I have drafted against who do not have as much access as other drafters. Some of these drafters bank on the eight hours that they have to check in. Although we think the worst of these type drafters, they need more than the personal 24 hours.
24 hours could be mostly eaten up in two/three bad work situations for these drafters.
Although we faster drafters look at these drafters as killjoys of our drafts, they still need a place to play next year.
The overnight stoppage should be the same hours for everybody. No need for confusion there.
The overnight clock does not prevent drafters from making a pick, we can all still do that. It just stops all personal clocks for a period of time.
Night time should also be easier also, if our new draft room has both auto-1 and auto-2 as well.

Just out of curiosity, what overnight time works for everybody? 3am to 6am EST? It has to be late enough, or the west coast drafters get screwed.

As new tech arrives next season I'd like to see a new standard rolled out for slow drafts.
1• 4 daytime hours to make a pick for all leagues.
2• The clock is paused (picks still can be made) each night from 1am to 9am eastern time.
3• A table that shows average pick time for each drafter
4• Auto-pick with the following options:
a) auto-pick is on/off for all picks
b) auto-pick is on for "x" # of picks of our choosing
c) check a box to use auto-pick only if there are players loaded into your personal draft queue
A personal time-clock, while appealing to those who like drafts to move at a quick pace, could also be a turnoff to newer players and those with busier schedules.

Autopick would be even more useful (and used) if we had the ability to set different queues for each round. I have a suspicion the football leagues would agree and I'm assuming the same infrastructure would be used for the NFFC.

Nobody gets 'screwed' at all.
It is simply a stoppage of time on all clocks. As KJ suggested, 1 A.M. TO 9 A.M., est would be good.
No matter what time it turns out to be, somebody will be inconvenienced. The folks who work second and third shifts are a lot worse off, no matter their time zones.
The 24 hour clock will not be embraced by a lot of drafters and is not a sure-fire hit, for sure.
Edit: If technology is up to it, I'd like to see 'Average Draft Time' next to each players name.
This would be a 'stat' that we can look at to see if we fit in with other drafters.
This stat would be next to our names when Greg/Tom posts the names for each draft on the Message Boards.
It could also provide a mini-competition in who can be the fastest drafters (or slowest) on the site.

Sort of turning this into a different thread than the OP intended....
Another useful addition would be the site asking "are you here" periodically. Perhaps posting in the chat would reset the time before the question is asked.
Reason being, presently, there's always someone that appears to be in the room but really isn't. This makes the ensuing couple of drafters think they will be up soon so they stick around etc.
Not sure what a reasonable time would be, but I'd gladly hit the "HERE" button every 30 minutes, especially since most of the time I'm logged on, I'm chatting so I wouldn't be asked the question.
Since it is an individual draft clock thread, personally, I think it's a horrible idea and would kill the contest. We're on a record pace for sign-ups. If you want to be done in 10 days, there are currently options to make it happen.

Just for clarification, I didn't say we are going to have individual clocks with countdowns from like 24 hours per owner. That isn't what I'm requesting. As Dan said, a person could get knocked down by just landing at the night time picks. Instead, I've requested a clock that shows how long someone has taken to pick. Hopefully everyone gets the message just by seeing how long they've been on the clock compared to other owners.
We can do more to discuss this, but that was my initial request to IT.

This is fine during the draft, but are we also going to see the avg time of a person when we sign up? I still say the 24 clock with some type of late night stoppage is the answer. More drafts, less aggravation.
