"Midnight Madness Draft!"in Vegas Friday Night 3/31

Post by Baseball Furies » Sat Mar 11, 2017 2:12 am

Okay it's that time of year again in the NFBC that I know you all look forward to as much as I do when Greg is coming in way too short on his Main Event entries, and the insufferable whining, pandering, and begging on the boards begins. ;) But this event has nothing to do with all that, other than Greg is giving it his blessing and setting up whatever I need for it to go down that night while making all the money from me working for free as usual as his surrogate marketing person. :o  Maybe next year with the new ownership, I'll win my arbitration case for a significant bump in salary from zero to at least a free subscription to the annual NFBC Fantasy Baseball Magazine or some of Tom's cat sitting services, whatever. But yet again, I digress.

For those of you on here not up on current events, I have a party set to go down again this year Friday night the big second weekend in Vegas. It's going to have the usual fun, food, beverages, cigars, baseball chat and shit-talking, ball-busting, and general camaraderie which is typical of all my functions. However, I felt like the evening wouldn't be complete without what draws us all together for the best time of the year: THE LIVE DRAFT EVENTS! So I wanted to put this out there for the true die-hards of the NFBC who just can't get enough drafting in this year and would like to try another MTM incarnation in this case, "Midnight Madness"! 8-)

Since there are going to be 25-30 of the best competitors and players in the NFBC in one place as a captured audience, why not put a little more money on the line in the spirit of friendly competition while we're all together anyway, right boys? And here's the kicker as far as who would like to participate in this thing: You don't need to be a paying party-goer or even be there live and in-person to throw your hat into the ring! That's right, I'll take 12-15 live bodies who are there that night, or anyone else who would like a piece of this action who'd like to patch in from wherever you'll be come draft time. I don't care as long as there are 12-15 competitors in when we are ready to start. Wait, what do I mean by 12-15 you ask? So here's how it'll work:

In the spirit of the name, it'll be a little "Madness" come time to start this thing. First of all, for all of you who need to turn in earlier for the next day's Main Event who need their beauty rest like Wayne Edwards (a man who could be put into a drug-induced coma for a year, and still not come out of it looking any better than he does now ), we don't have to start this at midnight, 11:00 p.m. would work fine and still give people party time and several hours of sleep for the Mains the next morning. Six hours not enough sleep, you may be saying?! Like I said, this is Vegas and you're not going there to fucking sleep, ladies. That's why it's for the die-hards!

So just before draft time, the type of draft contest that it's going to be will be determined randomly on the spot from one of the following NFBC contests: A $350, $750, or $1500 Rotowire Championship or the Grand-Daddy of them all, an NFBC Main Event! Followed immediately by a live "Iron Balls" KDS draft position draw. And then the draft for 30 rounds straight through with no breaks (or one break if everyone agrees to it). Like I said, "MADNESS" is the theme here. All of these events would also be eligible for the overall prizes in their respective contest categories. I'll compile a list of competitors over the next couple of weeks on this thread, and once we're at 15 committed, I'll start a list of alternates as well. The top 12 or 15 will get in depending upon how the contest draw goes that night, so everyone needs to be ready to go. And no pussing out! However it shakes out, is how it shakes out. If your name is on the list, you need to be there live or patched in if I can't get 15 Vegas guys there live and in person first. All party-goers are welcome to be there as spectators/coaches/fans etc. should you not be in for the draft and wish to stay to continue to enjoy the festivities.

So let the "sign-ups" begin in the spirit of the true Vegas gambler in all of us. If there happens to be a consensus as to one type of contest over another, I'm game for going with any of these. Personally, I'd love to do another Main Event, but as I said, whatever happens, happens, and I'd be just as happy with a random draw that night.

Let's make this happen! Who's game and wants in? 8-)

So let's get the sign-up list started for this bad boy!

1. MTM (if we get a huge response for this, I'd even consider giving up my spot if need be to act as celebrity draft facilitator for the evening!)
2. Bryan Vogel (because he said he's in for anything and I don't want to hear his bitching if I don't add him to the list now!)
3. Scott Waggener (he's in for a Main Event if it shakes out this way or we all agree on this contest in the end) 8-)
4. Mario Malgeri (because he's always in for anything when it comes to Vegas!)
5. Mike Mager (because he was just unable to resist my effervescent charm and charisma when we spoke yesterday  )
6. Scott Davis (because he doesn't do anything without his wife, Chad Fleming) :P
7. Chad Fleming (because he doesn't do anything without his husband, Scott Davis) :P
8. Joe Anthony (because I wouldn't take no for an answer on him spending the last of his money to jump into this one)
9. Kenny Enfield (because we needed a little class in this draft, so I pushed for a Canadian...plus the guy loves me, so why not? 8-)
10. Matt Shepherd (because he just couldn't resist a really, fucking good time with the likes of the rest of us 8-)
11. Paul Weber (because Greg said so, and he's buying!) ;)
12. Dan Semsel (because he's a true gamer...plus the bribe money wasn't too high for me to swing.)

Just heard from Scott Waggener who'd be in for a Main Event for "Midnight Madness" if it shakes out this way. Is this guy bitchin' or what? 8-) Let's keep 'em coming and see how many we can get for this! :D

You're in, my boy! 8-)

We now need just 6 more for a possible 12-Team RW Championship draft, and only 9 more for a possible Main Event as everyone on the list so far told me they are game for the Grand-daddy and another shot at the $125,000 overall prize. So who else wants to join the fun?

Thanks Scott, you beat me to it. Working on the scaredy cats now. There's still a lot going on behind the scenes. It's getting pushed. No reason why we shouldn't have a draft that night with the talent in the room that will be there. Spread the word on your end. I'll be on it a lot tonight and tomorrow. So if you're thinking about jumping on board for this one, expect a text or message from me in the next day or so, because I'm psychic about this kind of shit! Like for instance, I can tell you right now that Scott Davis and his life partner Chad Fleming are seriously considering it, and will probably be reaching out to me as soon as they see this post.

Scott and Chad (and others attending the party) - You might as well sign up for the "Midnight Madness" draft, or Mike will use his "effervescent charm and charisma" on you, too (and, trust me, it's not pretty). ;) Besides, if that doesn't work, you know the texts will be flying fast and furious at all hours. Seriously, a Friday night "party draft" sounds pretty cool. (Not really sure about this "no breaks" policy unless the bartender delivers, but we can work this out.)

Sanka is decaf, jackass! :P I put you and your spouse down as in for 'Midnight Madness". I expect that there will be no marital spats during the draft.

So who else wants in? We're almost there on at least making an OC happen, although Scott Waggener wants only a Main Event which is still possible depending upon how this all shakes out. Let's do this boys! 8-)

Joe Anthony just had his arm oh so gently twisted into joining us for at least a cheap 12-teamer, so we'll see how it shakes out. Now on a collision course to perhaps taking on his old buddy, Kenny "Sack" Magner in this one, so should be interesting. :D Closing in on having "Midnight Madness" be a go! Let's do this thing!

Just added the mercurial and mysterious, Kenny Enfield, who will be traveling most of the trip to Vegas via iceberg from where he lives in Canada to join us for the party and now for a little "Midnight Madness"! 8-) It's his first time drafting out here with the sharks, so let's make our little baby seal friend feel welcome when he arrives.

Inching closer every day to getting a league to happen at the party, so let's make this happen! If you're considering it, get off the fence and jump into this one. For sure to be the most enjoyable live drafting experience you'll have out in Vegas. 8-)

Now a minimum of just TWO TO THREE SPOTS LEFT! Who wants in so we can close this special contest event out and get prepared for some serious drafting mostly under the influence? Greg has almost assured us that the $100,000 OC overall winner or overall Main Event Champ will somehow come out of this draft!*

 Hence my "little" disclaimer. I thought you were posting about pushing a few more guys our way who are currently stuck in limbo and looking to do at least a live OC out in Vegas. And you get off easy on the room, food, and drink fees, Greg. C'mon already! Are we working together or what? :P

I think this "Midnight Madness Draft" is a great idea if we can pull it off. Having signed up (and paid) for a $750 OC for that Friday morning that currently appears highly unlikely to sell-out, I'm really hoping we have enough interest to do (at least) a $750 or $350 OC at the party. Looks like we are almost there for a 12-teamer. C'mon guys, this is Vegas! You're not flying into town to go to bed early!

Mike

(I do realize that the "What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas" advertising campaign probably contemplated activities slightly wilder than a bunch of moderately-inebriated grown men sitting around a hotel suite conference table with spreadsheets and laptops arguing and ball-busting over the relative athletic talents of younger men who are currently residing in Florida and Arizona, but, dammit, we love to draft! So let's get one more draft in!)

We're in the home stretch now, and it's coming down to the wire. By this time next year, there is going to be a waiting list for this draft after the inaugural one this year becomes another MTM Instant Classic! So who wants one of the last couple of spots so we can at least have a little OC action going down that night at the party in style? 8-)

And P.S. Greg, just a reminder, I am still not yet on your payroll, so enough with the college basketball crapola and get working on this, too! :P

Had another inquiry this morning that I'm working on, so let's fill this one and close it out. Who else wants a part of this action in a great venue with a bunch of great NFBC veterans? I'm sure Greg is working feverishly on helping me right now with all the OC guys who are in limbo waiting on a decision on what draft, when, and at what price point. This one is open to anyone who still wants to get into at least a live OC out in Vegas.

Update!!! We should be up to at least 11 committed for this event which will be a $350 live OC at the party. :D I am waiting on final confirmation from Greg, but we're right there! It's so close now we can taste it. So who wants to be the last one or two to put us over the top? Extra drinks from the open bar are on me. Return airfare for next year's competition out in Vegas are on Greg*. 8-) So let's do this thing!

Count me in for this 3/31 please.

How about it's a "speed draft" where everyone gets 30 seconds to pick?

Welcome to party, Matt! 8-) Great having you in for this one. Glad you caved to the peer pressure and jumped on board...or simply had nothing better to do that night which is completely fine, too.

NOW JUST ONE SPOT LEFT AND IT'S PARTY TIME WITH A LITTLE "MIDNIGHT MADNESS" DRAFT ACTION TO CAP IT ALL OFF! Who wants the last spot ?

Shamelessly bumping this up to snag the last couple of brave competitors we need. Who wants to draft with this veritable rogue's gallery of NFBC veterans the night of the party? It will more than likely change your life...or someone else's. But either way, something good is bound to come out of this draft. 8-)

Paul Weber wants in for a $350 live OC as per Greg yesterday morning, so we are now just about there! 8-) I'll be updating things further upon my return from the events in NYC this weekend. So let's fill this thing leaving no doubt come Monday!
