Notes N' Stuff

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Mon May 08, 2017 11:57 am

16 Players have nine or more home runs this year.
Only one, was a first round pick in NFBC drafts.
Bryce Harper.

Here are the American League leaders in homers and their ADP:

Aaron Judge- 13 (349)
Joey Gallo- 10 (436)
Khris Davis- 10 (101)
Yonder Alonso- 9 (551)
Marwin Gonzalez- 9 (439)
How are you liking them 'value' apples?
Again, we do not know 'value' till the season begins.

Do you feel a little cheated as a Chris Archer owner?
That's understandable.
Tampa has given Archer the first runs on the scoreboard in every one of his seven starts this year.
He has won just two games.

Joe Mauer had a walkoff homer the other day. The press made a big deal about this being Mauer's first walkoff homer.
(They still regard him much more highly than the fantasy community)
They shouldn't have been surprised at all. Mauer has been up in a walkoff situation 68 times before.
Not one extra base hit.
If anything, they should have been surprised that Mauer got that one!
Carlos Correa has had seven game winning rbi in extra innings alone
Ryon Healy homered in a walkoff win yesterday vs. Francisco Rodriguez.
The last time Healy was up in a walkoff situation, he homered last year vs. Alex Colome.

Matt Albers notched a Save for Washington the other day.
Hence, there were FAAB bids for Albers this week.
Albers had finished 102 Major League games before that Save.
All, without a Save.

Over his last 200 Starts, Clayton Kershaw has an E.R.A. of 2.11
The only other modern day pitcher to have a 200 game span with a lower E.R.A (2.03) was Greg Maddux.

The Reds averaged over 10 runs and the Giants scored less than two runs per game in their series just finished.
It was the worse beating for the Giants in a three game series since 1922.

27 players have stolen five bases or more.
The thieves are excelling at their thievery.
None of those 27 players have been caught more than three times.
Here are the stolen base wannabe's with their bags and (cs)...
Piscotty- 1 (4)
Margot- 4 (4)
Pillar- 4 (4)
Romine- 1 (3)
Odor- 1 (3)

The only three players with at least six home runs and five stolen bases are...
Mike Trout (8/5)
Paul Goldschmidt (7/8)
Aaron Hicks (6/5)

Miguel Sano has 123 plate appearances.
He has put the ball in play for an out, just 28 times.
The 95 other appearances resulted in a hit, walk, or strike out.

Yasiel Puig was partially drafted for his extra base hit potential.
Not for his extra outs.
So far, the extra outs are winning.
Puig has eight extra base hits....and grounded into a Major League leading 11 double plays.

Anthony Rizzo owners cringed when their guy was struck with a 100 mph fastball from Aroldis Chapman.
Rizzo again, is leading baseball in hit by pitches (8)

Want to know who is helping fantasy teams the most, without looking at one of the five categories?
Here are the leaders in extra base hits...

1 Ryan Zimmerman- 25
2 Charlie Blackmon- 21
3 Freddie Freeman- 20
Eric Thames- 20
Mike Trout - 20
6 Nolan Arenado- 19
7 Wil Myers SD- 18
Francisco Lindor- 18
Adam Duvall- 18
Aaron Judge- 18

Jordy Mercer has drawn four, four fingered walks this year (intentional walks)
Ryan Zimmerman?
Zero.

Zimmerman has played 30 games with 25 extra base hits. 83.3 percentile.
Just for historical context, Barry Bonds 73 homer year of 2001, Bonds was in the 70 percentile in extra base hits.

Speaking of Bonds, in 2004, Bonds had 373 official at bats. He reached base 376 times.
He walked 232 times.
Most of those base on balls were of the 'defensive indifference' variety. Not wanting to face Bonds threat of a home run.
And in many ways, it worked.
Bonds scored 129 runs. Almost as many by homer (45) as his record setting 232 BB.
We know the 'secret' with Bonds, still, we will never see a 373 at bats, 376 times reaching base again.

In this day and age, we get caught up in techno stats.
Exit velocity, routes to ball, speed around the bases, etc.
We know everything about everybody.
We know that the more velocity a pitcher possesses the better chance of a strike out.
Or do we?
11 pitchersin baseball history have struck out 3,300 batters.
Only six, just over 50 per cent were thought to have 'high velocity' pitches...

1 Nolan Ryan- 5714
2 Randy Johnson- 4875
3 Roger Clemens- 4672
4 Steve Carlton- 4136
5 Bert Blyleven- 3701
6 Tom Seaver- 3640
7 Don Sutton- 3574
8 Gaylord Perry- 3534
9 Walter Johnson- 3509
10 Greg Maddux-3371
11 Phil Niekro- 3342

Blyleven- Curve
Sutton- Variety
Perry- Spitter
Maddux- Spotter
Niekro- Knuckler

By the way, only one of these 11 pitchers did NOT win 300 games.
The answer at the bottom of this post....

Speaking of strike outs and velocity....
Seven Closers have more Saves than Aroldis Chapman.
Five have more strike outs.
Chapman averages throwing two innings per week.
Chapman's adp- 46

This is the time of year where we stop saying, "It's still early".......
It gets late early in fantasy baseball.

Jason Vargas has allowed four extra base hits in six games....

Mike Fiers has allowed 14 home runs......

Dallas Keuchel has allowed hitters, seven rbi...six of them from solo homers.....

If needing hope, Adam Wainwright owmers, there is the sabr-favorite of BABIP.
Wainwright has been 'unlucky' enough to have a BABIP of .429

Are the Yankees and Cubs still playing?.....

....The only pitcher not garnering 300 Wins of those 11 greats?

Bert Blyleven- 287
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
