Latest NFBC Update From The LABR Guy

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Tue Mar 06, 2007 4:32 am

Okay, I'm back from Arizona and home to the place where snow never ends. There's still 23 inches of snow surrounding my house and the forecast is for 2-3 more inches of snow tonight. Calgon, take me away!! :D It was great to see green grass and baseball again as I attended three games and participated in two auction leagues. I don't like what we did in the AL LABR auction, but I like our NL team. Those things happen.

Okay, you folks know we are straight shooters here with everything we do with the NFBC, so here's the latest update from yours truly. I was scheduled to be home last night and would have done this then, but my connecting flight got bumped and I spent five worthless hours in the Minneapolis airport. It was a wasted day of travel.

As for the NFBC's main event, yes it was great to sell out all 360 spots a week early. But since all four cities have partial leagues, it also would have been foolish of us not to try for one more league this last week. We are already halfway there and have a good shot at filling a fourth full league in Chicago and nearing another full league in New York. We obviously will go no higher than 375 teams, so just give us another day or two to figure this out. I have a lot of phone calls to return today and there is enough interest out there to get us to a 25th overall league.

As one poster mentioned, this seems like greed on our part. Well, flat out, it's not. If we had more full leagues in each city we would have stopped at 360 last Friday and I would have been a happy man. But the experience will be a little better for everyone if we can get to 375, trust me. It won't hurt the contest and it won't hurt our timing much on the draft slots. With me being out of the office until today, you wouldn't have gotten your draft slots until Wednesday, March 7th. Now you'll get them on Thursday or Friday at the latest.

With so many names on our list to call to get to 375, we feel confident in saying that you'll have your draft slots on Friday of this week at the latest. We're shooting for Thursday afternoon, but we'll see if that happens. We know exactly what needs to happen to get that done and we're working day and night to get that done. So just hang tight a little longer.

The KDS deadline is noon today, so get that entered if you haven't done so already. We will ask STATS to lock those soon after and send them to us. Tom and I will have everything ready to pick the draft slots on Thursday when needed. So everything is on pace to get the main event finished this week.

Tom and I are still going through all of the credit cards that didn't go through and contacting those owners and filling out the satellite leagues and even working on the Fantasy Sports Trade Conference. We have plenty to do and us going to 375 teams isn't delaying the announcement of draft slots. We wouldn't have been able to do that right now even if we had stayed at 360 with so many things yet to do.

Feel free to post any questions on this thread as I'll be working late today. Thanks everyone.

Whoever raised or insinuated that it is "greed on your part" must not run a business. Plus, the $ difference to you guys in adding one league is, I would guess, inconsequential.

We put most of the dollars back into the leagues, so adding one main event league doesn't mean as much as say adding an Ultimate League team. If you want to say we're greedy, bust our chops about adding a fourth Ultimate Draft League!! :D The hell with it, that's where I'll spend my time today and forget about 375!! :D Thanks for setting me straight Jack! ;)

Besides, Tom and I are employees of a company that already knows we reached our budget with this event. I'm not sure where the greed is because Tom and I are drinking the same amount of Corona's whether we hit 360 or 375!! :D We're just trying to make the experience better in each city and if we stay at 360 -- which is possible -- so be it.

Okay, one more update today. I think we're real close to getting 60 teams in Chicago, which would accomplish our goal of closing out full leagues in one city. We got another commitment right now and have at least two more teams interested. Stay tuned.

King of Queens, I know your poking fun at me. But just for the record I have no problem with Greg or the decision. I just wanted to know.

Greg and Tom, you guys are awesome, and whatever you think is best, is good enough for me.

Unless of course my draft position sucks lol

Okay, we have run just about every credit card for the main event and after all was said and done it looks like only one owner just couldn't make things work out. So we lost one today, but added several more. We are well on our way to 375 teams and should fill this out very soon. Some of the teams that signed up in the last two days were planning on joining us all along and just had to clear their work schedules first, so all is good.

The Chicago Auction League seems to be coming along good and we're definitely going to have something there on Friday morning and the Las Vegas Auction Leagues are full except for two $650 AL spots on Friday afternoon. The third Ultimate Draft League is still up in the air, but another team just contacted me about joining as the smaller format is appealing to them. So we'll know more on that tomorrow.

But all in all, a good day as we are moving forward. I believe we have locked the KDS preferences for the main event, so if you need to change anything at the last minute e-mail Tom at [email protected]. Our goal right now is to announce the draft spots on Thursday afternoon if we finish as strong as I think we will. Stay tuned.
