10 Questions

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Sat Jul 15, 2017 9:49 am

So many times we have told ourselves...
"Self, why did I start this player over that player!" or...
"Self, why did I bid so much when I didn't hafta?"
Playing in the NFBC, limiting these mistakes is of the utmost importance. But what is more or most important?
Here is a list of questions. You decide.

1. In the Main Event, if you could be guaranteed of either playing your best 23 players of 30 every deadline (maximum stats) or be guaranteed of outbidding every other team by one dollar in FAAB every FAAB period, which would you choose?

2. In Draft Champions, if you had the choice of a guarantee of your top two picks returning first round stats or two players drafted after round 30 returning round 10 stats, which would you choose?

3. Early in the year, before knowing what you 'need, you have the choice of an offensive player who goes 5-5, 4 runs, 8 rbi, 3 hr, and a stolen base or a Starting pitcher throwing a perfect game. Which would you choose?

4. It's the last day of the season. You have been neck and neck for a league title with a fella that you dislike.
You could win the league title by your pitcher throwing a great game or watch his pitcher implode, giving you the league title. Which would you choose?

5. Death by papercut.....
Your pitcher gives up five earned runs in three innings or three of your hitters failing to drive in even one run in bases loaded situations. Which would you choose as worst to watch?

6. In Draft Champions, attrition has effected your team with injury.
You have the choice of filling every offensive position with starting players and only seven pitchers who will give you statistics or a full pitching staff while not getting statistics from two positions on offense, which would you choose?

7. More satisfying...
Starting a pitcher, you were 'worried about' and seeing him throw a great game or wrestling over a FAAB bid and finding out that you won the player by $1, which would you choose?

8. If there were some way to trade draft picks, would you like the option for any NFBC leagues?

9. You could win $6,500 by winning a Main Event league or $7,000 through various satelite and DC leagues, which would you choose?

10. Fantasy baseball or sex, what occupies your mind more?

I was so tempted to end question 10 with, 'which would you choose', but that would not be fair to our significant other, would it :D
Enjoy the angst that some of these questions will give you....

Here are my answers....

1. Best 23 players. Leaving stats on the bench drives me crazy.

2. I'll take the stability of my top 2 picks returning first round stats.

3. For some reason with these type questions, I always take the pitcher.
Same as when my pitcher faces my hitter.

4. Much as I'd like to see my rival fall on his own sword, I want to win it with my player.

5. I can't stand watching my pitchers. I have cheated and watched Chris Sale this year though, the entertainment factor overriding the fear of failure :D

6. As always, I go with the pitching.

7. And again, the pitcher.

8. Yes. As long as the rounds added up to the same number.
For instance, I could trade my 3rd and 4th pick for another drafters 1st and 6th round picks.
Both sides adding up to seven. This would limit outlandish trades.

9. Main Event win

10. Your age has a lot to do with this question.
Oh, how I wish I could answer 'sex', but I'd only be lying :D
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

1) Getting your maximum lineup in every scoring period would be huge. If you had any kind of team at all, I would think you would make a run at the overall. At the very least, you finish top 20 in the three ratio categories.

2) I'll take the late picks and hope I don't blow the first and second round selections.

3) Perfect games are so rare. Easy choice.

4) I can't say I really dislike anybody in the NFBC all that much. We all know how much dedication it takes to beat the players at this level and it's hard to begrudge anybody when they succeed. I would always prefer to win something outright than to back into a title. I would love to combine this with question 3 and win a league with a perfect game on the final day. About 15 years ago, I made up 10 points on the final day and tied for first in a CBS league. I had already posted congratulations to the guy I caught the day before.

5) I hate watching my pitchers get blasted, although, strangely, I'm more serene about it this year since seeing one your guys get bombed for crooked numbers seems to happen every other day now. Team wide hitting slumps are maddening in their own way, but I need a few days of that to get too upset.

6) I'll take the seven pitchers as long as I've got at least five starters in that group. There's simply no way to make up for the loss of daily counting stats from position players over the long haul.

7) In today's game, I'm probably more relieved to see a shaky pitcher get away unscathed. That guy you won for a buck might turn out to be a two week wonder who flops anyway.

8) Trading draft picks in specified satellite leagues would be okay. I would like to explore the possibility of expanding keeper leagues, like the two-year leagues KJ has run the last few years. I think off-season trades of players under that format would be a nice option.

9) Interesting question. I would guess the prestige of a Main Event win is worth $500, but I probably wouldn't pay more than that.

10) I'm a married man. What is this "sex" you speak of?

I understand why we cannot trade. Not even opening that can of worms up. But... how much fun would it be to be in trading leagues with 14 other equally or almost as equally educated players who take it so seriously. I don't think you would see a lot of blockbusters. I think it is a great compliment to our game here thought that a guy could put out a post today saying I am looking to trade Ian Kennedy and ten people would try to find a way to make an offer for him.
