NFBC Message Boards

Congratulations to Jim Phan of Ashburn, Virginia as he won the 2017 Rotowire Online Championship and the $100,000 grand prize. Jim won his March 12th Online Championship league with a whopping 114 points and also finished fourth overall in this contest, which had a record 1,788 teams. Great job Jim.

Phan drafted out of the 2nd spot and started with Clayton Kershaw, Francisco Lindor and Corey Kluber. His big additions included Jose Ramirez in Round 9, Jake Lamb in Round 13, Marcell Ozuna in Round 19 and Gio Gonzalez in Round 26. Picking up Whit Merrifield on June 4th for $13 was his biggest FAAB pickup, while he also got Michael Taylor later that month for $7. Picking up Scooter Gennett in early July for $5 didn't hurt, either. August pickups of Rafael Devers and Rys Hoskins may have sealed the deal.

Jim first joined in the NFBC in 2014 and has played with us every year since. He had a fantastic season in the NFBC in 2017 as he entered a total of 10 leagues, including a Main Event for the second straight year. He did all of his leagues Online and cashed in 7 of 10 leagues. He won three Online Championship Leagues and finished second in two others, cashing in 5 of 6 Online Championship leagues. Jim finished 1st and 4th overall, while also finishing 61st and 79th overall. He earned $100,000 for first, $12,000 for 4th, and he earned another $5,600 in league prizes.

Jim also cashed in both NFBC $150 Draft Champions Leagues, finishing 1st and 2nd. He finished 4th in his Main Event and 3rd in a $750 Online Championship Plus league. In all, he won $118,700. Great, great job Jim.

Jim Phan set a record this year in the Rotowire Online Championship as he earned 93.59 percent of available points, which is pretty tough to do when there are 1,788 teams competing. That broke the old record of 93.43 percent of available points, which was set in 2012 by Michael O'Brien.

Nine years of history in the Online Championship is pretty cool. That means that Season 10 is upcoming for the Online Championship during the NFBC's 15th season. Pretty cool.
