Stinky Stuff

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Fri Oct 06, 2017 10:28 am

Year end Stuff with a lot of 'Stink' to it....

Jose Bautista had another horrible year.
.203 batting average, Just 23 home runs.
BUT....Bautista scored more runs (92) than Cody Bellinger (87) and Billy Hamilton (85)

We want more at bats for our players.
Here are two full time players that would better serve us and their teams as platoon players.
Jake Lamb hit just .144 vs lefties. His .282 batting avg vs righties, ruined to the tune of .248
Rougned Odor hit .145 vs. lefties
Odor stunk it up against righties too in only hitting .225 against them. a .204 Batting average overall.
Despite the bad average, especially vs. lefties, Odor played in EVERY game this year.
Did he threaten to punch out the Manager?

The Houston Astros have Carlos Correa. They have Jose Altuve. They have George Springer.
Marwin Gonzalez led the Astros in rbi this year with 90.

Robinson Cano did not beat Scooter Gennett in nary roto category this past year.
THAT would have been good to know before drafting season!
I remember a drafter calling out "VALUE' when selecting Cano in the fourth round.
Never imagining that the real value was with Gennett, 30 rounds later.
Cano - .280/79/23/97/1
Scooter.295/80/27/97/3

Jonathon Villar was selected as early as eighth overall this year.
We love our one hit wonders. Actually, Villar had 97 hits.
As many hits as Gennett had rbi.
There was little joy at the value-mart in Mudville for those selecting Villar.

I know Trea Turner can run.
And I know that some are doing 'on pace' for Turner if he hadn't had his injury this year.
He would have been on pace to steal 3,421,058 bases. I get it.
That love turned in to a third pick overall in the PreMature Draft this year.
Allow me to bring up two things about Turner.
He stole 22 bases in one month this year.
For 'on pace' folks, that would be 132 stolen bases in a year.
For reverse 'on pace' folks in which we tally up the stolen bases from other months and 'on pace' them for the year, it would mean 30 stolen bases for the year.
But, that is minor.
Here is Trea Turner's largest turnoff for me....
Trea Turner has only played over 100 games in his minor league and major league career once.
One time.
And he has not been penalized for that.

Seriously, if we played Rougned Odor in every fantasy lineup this year AND we had three .300 hitters, our batting average would be .269
Good thing Odor can't threaten us.

I used to think that DJ LeMahieu would 'grow' into power.
I mean he's a pretty big guy. He hits at Coors.
What else could we want?
I was wrong.
LeMahieu is happy with being a fantasy sissy.
He is one of only 10 qualified batters who did not reach 10 homers this year.
I mean, we are talking about Dee Gordon, Billy Hamilton, Margaret Hamilton, Joe Mauer, Juan Pierre, Duane Kuiper, none of which hit 10 homers this year.
Worse, he only stole six bases.
LeMahieu has turned himeself into not a power hitter, but the dreaded two category player.
Batting average (310) and Runs (95).
Stinky Odor will be drafted before him.

Every batter who struck out 165 times or more this year, had 20 home runs or more.
11 of 14 batters who struck out less than 75 times had LESS than 20 homers
It's why roto players don't mind strike outs.
By the way, Justin Turner, Jose Ramirez, and Didi Gregorius were the three batters.

24 batters had 75 base on balls or more this year.
Each had at least 20 home runs.
Pitchers aren't stupid.

If not taking walks, a batter must hit for a good average to keep his place in the lineup.
Even Alcides Escobar, who drew just 15 base on balls, hit .250
In fact every hitter in the bottom 15 of qualified hitters drawing the least amount of walks, hit at least .250
Except one.
Stinky Odor again!

In over 170 plate appearances vs. lefties, Stinky was hbp (6) more than he walked (5)
He was also 0-2 in stealing bases vs. lefties.
Can you tell that I don't believe Odor should have played every game this past year?

John Jay scored as many runs (65) as Josh Donaldson this year.
That would have been good to know before drafting season too.
For you 'on pace' folks, Donaldson hit 22 homers over the last two months of the season.
A pace off 66 for the year.
Isn't 'on pace' fun....

If we take the total of Kyle Schwarbers hits (89)
And subtract his homers (30)
We arrive at Schwarber's rbi total (59)
Yes, it means nothing.
But, it's fun.

In closing...
C'mon!
Even for the Sabrs that love OBP...
Stinky Odor's OBP was just two points higher than Alcides Escobar's BATTING AVERAGE
Odor playing 162 games was not a show of ironmanish from Odor as much as it was ironheadish from his Manager.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

Good stuff Dough! Only through 1B so far for 2018. What a weird year for 1B in 2017. Only 8 of the top 20 qualifying 1B in 2016 made the top 20 in 2017. The top two were exactly the same though (Goldy and Votto). High number of surprises this year at the position...who had this group in the top 20 before the year?

Zimmerman
Bellinger
M Gonzalez
Smoak
M Reynolds
L Morrison
J Gallo
Mancini
Gurriel
J Bell

Onto the keystone...
