Auction Software & Uses For The Live Auctions

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Tue Mar 06, 2018 3:40 pm

Okay, we are 10 days away from our first live NFBC auction and we are more ready than ever. This is going to be a historic auction season for the NFBC as we have more live auctions than ever before and we know that we are a season away from debuting our new online auction software. The best is yet to come.

We did a final run-through today with the online auction software and we are very pleased. Although we didn't get the online auction software ready for the start of baseball, we have a great product that will debut in football and grow the online auction business in all of our sports. We can't wait to debut this software in football and we look forward to regular online auctions in baseball in 2019. Heck, maybe we can look at doing a mid-season auction this year!! That would be fun.

Anyway, you'll see how the auction software works at the live drafts in New York, Chicago and Las Vegas soon enough. And here's a few ways it can actually help you at the live auctions:

** If you bring an iPad or laptop, you'll have access to the auction room (very similar to the draft room) and when a player is nominated his photo will appear in the Selected Player area along with the opening bid. You will certainly be able to see who is being bid on as the bidding continues (it won't show up on the auction board until the final purchase price is added).

** If you bring an iPad or laptop, you'll have access to the player default list and can easily search for players to nominate during the auction or to select in the Reserve Rounds. Undrafted players will show up in the auction room throughout the auction/Reserve round.

** If you bring an iPad or laptop, you'll have access to the auction board as well and easily be able to see the bids next to each player. Sometimes even the big screens don't adequately show up in a big ballroom, so feel free to call up the auction board for a clearer view.

** The auction board this year is set up by position, so you'll see selected players by team this way:
Catcher
Catcher
1B
2B
SS
3B
CI
MI
UT
5 - Outfielders
9 - Pitchers

** We will only display the 23 players in the auction, so again hopefully these are clearer and bigger for your view. The software shows remaining dollars and Max Bid total. And obviously it automatically subtracts the winning bid from those totals.

** The Reserve Round creates a new board for the serpentine draft, which starts with Team 1 and continues seven rounds through Pick 15 (all auction picks are also showing). It is serpentine. The new draft board won't show the dollar values from the auction, but that auction board with dollar values will remain on the screen until we start the reserve rounds and you'll always have access to those bids on your team page. It's a little different twist to turn an auction into a draft, but it will work well and we'll be able to show the dollar values on your team pages.

We know the majority of you bring latops or tablets to help with auctions. Now you might want to open a separate window or two for the board and the auction room. it might make the auction even easier to track and watch. Thanks and hope this helps.

And then next baseball season, let's have regular online auctions!!! All formats will work. Can't wait.

Anybody who does that job as good as you do Andy isn't getting replaced by technology. I think there's a job waiting for you when it comes to this and hopefully we'll keep you even busier than before.
