Prior is just fine
Of the first 42 starting pitchers taken in the Vegas 3, 25 have now pitched. And a whopping four have managed a quality start and win. Advantage Prior owners in May.
Do good.

Thats just dumb. Regardless of what other ptichers do, Prior owners are missing chances for wins, innings, Ks, and a nice low ERA and WHIP by Prior missing time. And with the rumors of arm troubles for Prior floating around, I wouldnt go claiming any advantages to his owners as of today.
But whatever makes you feel better...

The point is that losing Prior for six starts hurts less if other teams' aces don't post good WHIP and ERA and Wins while he's out. If they post 4 ERAs and 1.3 WHIP, then a non-Prior team didn't "widen the gap."
(Ks is less an issue -- maybe it'll cost a Prior owner 20 Ks over five starts based on the replacement 's Ks.)
Will the poor performance of top pitchers continue? Doubtful. But every single poor start by an ace makes softens the blow of the Prior situation, assuming he comes back in May in 2003 form.

Dude, think before you post something so damn hideous. You obviously own Prior and you are trying to put a positive spin on your risky 1st round pick going down.
But however you wish to spin losing your ace, more power to you. If you think not having Prior pitching is a positive, then I hope you are in my league next year.

Lets see, Prior in round one or say Helton? Hmmmm? Let me think that over???? Hmmmm? This answer should be obvious to even a rookie player. Nobody in their right mind wants to see their first round pick sidelined for 6 of the 26 weeks of the season. Especially if he's a pitcher who may need some innings to even start to look like a round one pick. Next poll please!

OK - So I'm not as good as I thought I was; but at least I am consistent.

I have Prior on my team. There is no use rationalizing about Prior. He could have been hit hard in the 6 starts he is missing or he could have pitched gems. I would rather have had him been healthy and get rocked in his first few starts than deal with the injury uncertainty. His injury just leaves less margin of error for my season, where I have to depend on lesser pitchers to make up some of his positive stats.

No one said not having Prior is a positive. But having other aces pitch poorly while he is out IS a positive.
Hopefully, you manage your team better than you read.

Advantage to all the teams that waited until the mid-rounds to take pitching (such as Sabathia in the 13th) and focused on the hitters in the first 7-8 rounds. It only takes one season of Roger Clemens going from a 2.6 ERA to a 4.8+ to realize that the best way to win a mixed-league draft league is to wait on the SP’s. I bet the team that wins this will have selected no more than 2 SP’s in the first 10 rounds and likely waited until at least round 6 to get his first SP.

So why didnt you just say pitchers preforming badly help those who dont have those particular pitchers?
When you throw in Prior's name, you make it sound as if him sitting out a month+ is doing you well, when, as I think we have stated above, is hogwash.

really disagree with nnoy's thoughts on starting pitchers...we took 4 in the first 5 rounds (that gave us 4 of the top 15 starters while other teams picked one or less)because 9 pitchers make up half the points while it takes 14 hitters to make up the other 50% of the points...also there were so may great/good outfielders that it didn't make sense to take them in the first 10 rounds or so
if you wait on pitchers the bad ones could really kill you with their regular poor outings while over time the good ones should be fairly solid

The Sun-Times reports that Mark Prior no longer is even thinking about a return date and won't throw off a mound today. He added that it usually takes six weeks to prepare for the start of spring training and he's not even at that point now. "My arm is not in shape yet, not enough to get on the mound," Prior said. It looks like he may not be back until late May or even June.

I predict that he will return to the Cubs during their homestand starting May 31st.
