Week Zero Live Draft

Post by Deadheadz » Fri Jul 27, 2018 12:16 pm

Has NFBC considered the potential for adding a day of live drafts the week before Week 1 in Vegas & New York?

My Week 0 proposal would be a road trip that rotates every three years. In 2019 you’d draft live at a Grapefruit League site. Followed by a Cactus League draft site in 2020.
Then in 2021 the Week 0 draft site would be in/near Cooperstown.
Back to Florida the following year as the rotation continues.

Sounds cool to me.

What are the challenges or disadvantages of trying this?

Yes and no. A few years ago (I think around the third year of the Main Event), the NFBC held drafts in Florida, first in Tampa, then in Orlando. The thought was it was a shorter trip for those of us in the South, but mainly folks could also tie in some Grapefruit league games. We would have a few leagues every year, but Florida never really took off.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.
